Why I support RI Pride and urge you to as well.November 1 was my first time back out in over 6 months because of job responsibilities. I put my personal life on hold and focused exclusively on work. The outcome - I am still employed, but the hours and the sacrifice did not add up in any way to the reward - (keeping my job was the only reward). There are very few gay people at my level in my company. While my company is progressive interms of diversity, there is a disproportionately small number of GLBTQ in management or senior positions. Is this because GLBTQ employees at this an other companies are simply not qualified? Absolutely not. Until I can live my life as an eqaul party to every other non LGBTQ American citizen without fear of being "punished" because of my life choices, I must support RI PRIDE. Finally - I sacrificed my ideals and personal goals because I was afraid of how my company would react. It ended up being a rotten year with little joy and no happiness. Someday this will not be an issue. until that magical day I look to Pride and thank tham for the 32 years of barriers that they have broken down to get me this far in my career. RI Pride really does make a difference.Is discrimination for us over? K.K.
