Mark Thomas Harmon (born September 2, 1951 in Burbank, California), is an American actor. Harmon is currently the star of the CBS series NCIS.He is the son of College Football All-American University of Michigan football legend and Heisman Trophy winner Tom Harmon, and of well-known actress, Elyse Knox. He has two older sisters: Kristin Nelson, a primitive artist, and former actress Kelly Harmon.Harmon attended UCLA and, following in his father's athletic footsteps, was the starting quarterback for the UCLA Bruins in 1972 and 1973. He was also awarded the National Football Foundation Award for All-Round Excellence in 1973.Harmon is married to actress Pam Dawber, with whom he has two sons: Sean Thomas Harmon (born April 26, 1988) and Tyrone Christian Harmon (born June 25, 1992). Harmon was involved in a custody battle with his sister Kristin about her son Sam Nelson after she went into treatment for alcoholism. The suit was later dropped and Sam went to live with his mother.He portrayed doctors in two previous series, Dr. Jack McNeil on Chicago Hope and Dr. Bobby Caldwell on St. Elsewhere. In a limited engagement on Moonlighting, Harmon, along with Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis, helped create one of the hottest television triangles in recent memory. He also played Morgan Fairchild's unfaithful husband on Flamingo Road.One of his more famous movie roles was as Mr. Freddy Shoop in Summer School.
