About Me

dadadavinci

Geoffrey Datson was a member of Surf Side Six, an Aussie punk Surf Band in the seventies, and then member of Samurai Trash - one of the first OZ bands signed to Virgin in the eighties. In 2000 he formed Stickylabel with Annette Hughes, making and publishing his audio poetry and music. Occasionally working as Protest Singer, and sometimes as Datson, they produce music in which weird stuff gets in the wires, made on the smell of an oily rag.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: stickylabel.com.au
Band Members: Geoffrey Datson, Annette Hughes(and from time to time) Dave Bonnefoy, ex drummer in UK outfit, Way of the West. The band varies, but is basically a real cello, various electrical appliances, an auto harp, and a couple of voices, not excluding the odd bird. I think they call it multitasking in business.
Influences: Goodness, where to start - it's been a long time in the making and the influencing, but most recently, Scott Walker's Drift was released, making much of Datson's ouvre of the past twenty years add up to something that at least a few people with any comprehension of new music capable of understanding. It's a small audience, but it's an audience with a mind and an intellect, and we like it that way.
Sounds Like: Dunno - you be the judge. It certainly doesn't sound like anything you'll hear on a popular label. In fact, I'd be deeply interrested to konw what category you think it fits into, because I'll be damned if I know how to categorise it - and I'm the bleeding producer. Heeeeelllp?
Record Label: stickylabel
Type of Label: Indie
