A Work In Progress

About Me

Myspace Layouts by Pimp-My-Profile.com

Let's see, I'm tall, fairly good-looking, especially if I took off the excess weight. I am also a bit of an obnoxiously arrogant intellectual elitist. In other words, I do not suffer fools lightly, and I am delighted to let them know when they fall into this catagory.I'm also a person that is usually very quiet and private. I prefer to spend quiet time with my family as my favorite recreational activity.

My Interests

Reading, writing fiction, sciences, politics, reigions/ mythology, bdsm, poly, etc.

I'd like to meet:

Intelligent people. I know, that's a tall order, but what the heck, I'm a dreamer.

Music:

Yep, I listen to it. That's about the best I can say without taking 4-5 pages to list all that stuff I like.

Movies:

This can be a step-up from tv, in the best of cases, or a worse destroyer of braincells then methanol in most cases. Of course, mindless fun can be nice from time-to-time.

Television:

To be avoided as much as possible.

Books:

Just about anything I can get my hands on, though my time has been limited lately. I tend to sciences (hard and soft), history, philosophy and religions in my non-fiction. In fiction I usually favor sci-fi and fantasy, but anything with great characters and a strong plot can grab my attention.

Heroes:

Joseph Campbell, for finding unity in all religions. Robert A Heinlein, for the Man from Mars, and his lessons on how to be human. Harlan Ellison, for his no-bullshit approach to everything. Terry Pratchett for proving that good humor didn't die with Swift.

Thoughts on Our Capitalist System

I remember growing up with a school system designed to teach us that capitalism was the only sane system.  It was during the Cold War and we were told how communism was just plain wr...

Scientific Ignorance

I've been kicking this around for a few weeks and finally decided to post it here.  It started with a sermon at our church that got me irritated enough that I almost got up and walked out....

A Memorial to Heroes

I was watching some of the coverage of Memorial Day events the last couple of days.  I worked nights all weekend, and thus slept through the days, so I mostly saw stories about what had already h...

Changes

I've been thinking a lot about how things change and how we change over time.  Last night I remembered something that happened years ago. When I was in eighth grade, on the first day, in music c...

Thoughts on Fear in Public Policy

I was reading yet another article on the 'horrible fate' in store for the whole world in the face of global warming.  There was more of how humans have destroyed this world and all life on Earth ...

Can war ever be just?

So, there is the old question, is there such a thing as  just war?  Well, for me, the first thing to do is define 'just'.  Here's what I found on YourDictionary.com: Just adj. adv. Th...

Thoughts on the Future

I've been doing a lot of reading lately.  This is hardly a surprise to those that know me, though it has been a while since I have been doing nearly this much reading.  I've been going throu...
