Banjo is the new Banjo...

About Me

Born in Liverpool, Ewan was brought up in rural north Wales, he moved back to the city in 1996 to be one of the first ever intake of students at Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts; graduating in 1998 with a BA (hons).
Since moving to Scotland in 1999 his recording credits include; the latest releases from Fribo and Malinky, the Jews Harp opener on Croft no 5's 'Talk of the Future' album, the new solo album by Alasdair White of Battlefield Band and The Complete Songs of Robert Burns. He also appears on the cutting-edge cult album by contemporary Scottish trio The Unit, with Paul Jennings & Amy Geddes.
Ewan has performed on-stage with a wide range of artists including: Seamus Egan (Solas), BBC Radio 2 Folk Award-winner John Spiers (Bellowhead), The Battlefield Band, Dàimh, Emily Smith, Bùrach, Cantrip, Lori Watson, Fine Friday and All-Ireland champion Claire Mann.
He has a strong interest in Scandinavian music, working regularly in Norway with Fribo (inc: vocalist Anne Sofie Linge Valdal - Jim Sutherland's Cold Weather Dancing - fiddler Sarah-Jane Summers & Paul Jennings), with their new release out on top UK folk label Fellside in January 2007.
Ewan is also one of the organisers of the Northern Streams Scandinavian music festival in Edinburgh each spring and works with Stoneyport music agency promoting his music and occasionally old musical pals Chris & Thomas who had a 5 week UK tour in 2006.
July 2007 also sees him begin work on a solo album of his own songs, supported by a S.A.C. Professional Development Award. Alongside Ewan on Guitar & Vocals the recording will include musicians: Ed Kelly-Double-Bass, Iain Copeland-Drums/Percussion, Fraser Fifield-Whistles/Pipes, Alasdair White-Fiddle, Jon Bews-Violin, Anna-Wendy Stevenson-Violin, Seylan Baxter-Cello and Hannah Read-Vocals.
An active member of the Edinburgh session scene, Ewan is becoming recognized as one of Scotland's most versatile multi-instrumentalists.
