About Me

This site is for disseminating information to members, families, friends and fans of the Columbus Youth Jazz Orchestra. We have been in existance for 15 years and are a combined project of both Columbus Recreation and Parks Department and the Jazz Arts Group of Columbus. The CYJO auditions high school age musicians every Fall and performs at the Southern Theater as part of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra's Sunday matinees. We have released 4 CDs and toured internationally 5 times in both Europe and South America. In 2002 the CYJO was a finalist in Jazz at Lincoln Center's "Essentially Ellington" HS Jazz Band Competition held at Avery Fisher Hall in New York. Graduates of the CYJO have gone on to attend some of the most prestigious music schools in the world including Berkely, CCM, Eastman, Indiana, Julliard, Manhattan, New England Conservatory, the New School, North Texas, and others.
