About Me

Alexander Tovar was born in Los Angeles, California and has studied music for over 9 years, playing jazz trumpet and piano. While he was a senior at Hamilton High School in West Los Angeles, the Symphony Orchestra performed one of his pieces entitled "Somewhere I Have Never Traveled," written for large orchestra and piano, which can be heard on this website. He has written over sixty pieces for large orchestra, string quartet, and small ensemble, and has made six experimental films. Upon graduating from high school, Alexander went to work for renowned composer Philip Glass in New York City. In New York, he was a music assistent to Glass and his musical director, Michael Riesman. He worked on two films while he was there, including Taking Lives (3/19/04) and Undertow (8/04). Currently, Alexander is in Los Angeles studying composition at the University of Southern California.
