About Me

The Los Angeles City College Composer's Club is formed through the interests of participating music students and faculty, and thrives through the generosity of the not-for-profit organization, "Sin Fronteras". Student members learn traditional and contemporary compositional techniques through the listening, critique, and creation of art music. Primary projects consist of writing a piece for a given ensemble that is performed at an end of the semester concert. "Sin Fronteras" provides outstanding musicians for these performances, all of which are professionally recorded and provided without charge to the student and participating faculty; our members are then able to use these recordings in applications for college and/or professional portfolios. Recent past projects included compositions for violin, flute, clarinet, cello, piano, and percussion for the Spring '08 term. We recently welcomed famed film composer and LACC alumni, John Williams, where he imparted compositional advise to students and later took part in the annual Composers Club concert.Fall '08 projects will focus on voice and piano. The primary faculty adviser is Dr. Kelly, University of Pennsylvania. Dr. McGaughy, runs "Sin Fronteras" and imparts his compositional knowledge during meetings as well.
