About Me

As you can see on the left, I'm 41 years old (young). I was born on the 14th of October in the year 1965 (a looooong time ago). I'm living together with my girlfriend Marieke (date of manufacture: May 20th, 1975) and our lovely daughter Bente (born on the 28th of February 2005) in the Western part of the Netherlands. In the period 1987-1993, I've studied English Literature and Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam, specializing in Historical Literature and Linguistics (Arthurian Literature, Chaucer, Medieval History & Literature). My final thesis was called 'Chaucer and the Religious', in which I took a detailed look at the religious characters in the 'General Prologue' of Geoffrey Chaucer's 'The Canterbury Tales' and whether or not they were a creation of the author, based on 'real-life' people in general at that time or people that Chaucer might have actually known. Sounds boring? Well, it actually wasn't. I discovered quite a lot about life in the late 14th century.I simply love music ....... I will not let a day go by without listening to it! My main interest lies with heavy metal and hard rock, in ALL its forms (that is: power metal, melodic metal, death metal, black metal, heavy metal, gothic metal, viking metal, folk metal, doom metal, nwobhm, progressive metal, hard rock, melodic hard rock, aor etc etc etc). I've been into metal since 1981 approximately. First love: Rainbow (before that I listend almost exclusively to Queen and Pink Floyd). In, I guess it was, 1982, we (my parents, my brother & me) went on holiday to Italy. Here I bought a (illegal) tape-version of Iron Maiden's The Number of the Beast. From that day on, I was hooked! Within a couple of weeks after we got home I had already bought Iron Maiden's back-catalogue on vinyl. The rest is history. I haven't stopped listening to rock & metal since! One of my hobbies is playing the drums in a (local)metal-cover-band. We started playing roughly around the beginning of 2003. Back then we were called Rites of Sorrow . After a change in line-up (due to the inevitable musical differences) we decided to change the name of the band into Tornado (after one of the Megadeth songs we play 'Tornado of Souls'). From this time on our setlist expanded and we started to rehearse frantically. After a break of almost a year (our singer became pregnant) we are now ready to storm the various stages in the Netherlands, performing songs by bands such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Heir Apparent, Y&T, Guns n' Roses, Judas Priest, Rainbow, Annihilator, Stratovarius, HammerFall, Saxon, etc etc etc. The line-up of the band is as follows: Wendy - vocals; Philip a.k.a. Phyl - lead & rhythm guitar; Stefan a.k.a. Snake - lead & rhythm guitar; Menno - bass; Rob a.k.a. El Robbo - drums Be sure to check out http://www.metalcoverband.nl. Here you can download our demo for free and, in the future, read everything about the band. For those interested, these are the songs we are currently playing i.e. rehearsing: Alcatrazz - "Jet to Jet" / Annihilator - "The Fun Palace"/ Anthrax - "Madhouse" / Armored Saint - "March of the Saint" / Candlemass - "At the Gallow's End" / Faith No More - "The Gentle Art of Making Enemies"/ Helloween - "Victim of Fate" / Gary Moore - "Murder in the Skies" / Guns n' Roses -"My Michelle" / Guns n' Roses - "It's so Easy" / HammerFall - "Renegade" / Heir Apparent - "Tear down the Walls"/ Iron Maiden - "Hallowed Be Thy Name" / Iron Maiden - "Fear of the Dark" / Judas Priest - "Breaking the Law" / Kiss - "Detroit Rock City"/ Megadeth - "Tornado of Souls" / Megadeth - "This Was My Life" / Megadeth - "Skin o'My Teeth" / Metallica - "Master of Puppets" / Metallica - "The Four Horsemen" / Metallica - "Creeping Death" / Motörhead - "Shine"/ Rainbow - "Kill the King"/ Saxon - "Power & the Glory"/ Saxon - "Princess of the Night"/ Stratovarius - "Playing with Fire" / Y & T -"Forever"I'm working for the municipality in which I live. To be more specific, for the Department of Heritage & Archaeology. My job is quite varied: performing work at local archaeological digs, doing DTP (DeskTopPublishing) work for the department (making the newsletter and all of our scientific and semi-popular publications), as well as being the depot administrator.=MORE TO COME=

Heroes:

I don't have any heroes ....... I hope my little baby daughter sees her daddy as a hero ;-) ....... There is only one person I'd like to meet one day in real life ....... My first real loud album was Rainbow's "Down to Earth" and after that the other Rainbow lp's (yes ... we're talking vinyl-era) and Iron Maiden's "The Number of the Beast". So I guess I'd like to meet Mr. Ritchie Blackmore one day somewhere in time ....... oh ....... and the guys from Maiden ! -------
