It takes a long time to organize my thoughts
I begin writing what appears to be gibberish at first
A tasteless thought into my consciousness
A heaping teaspoon for my unquenchable thirst
But writing isn’t merely enough, not even a fraction of what it feels to think these things alone
Imagine having thoughts like this, searching for the right words to express or atone
You entered my life as food for thought, entertainment for an hour’s work
You became a source of entertainment beyond your first unavoidable quirk
And like a dream it began, we had some much in common we’d talk for hours on end
Our conversations were silly ones most people wouldn’t extend
And as quickly and unexpectedly as it happened, you became my escape from heartache
My open hearts new mistake
I have a tendency to get attached, and in this case it was a mess
Things got awkward once I overreacted and our conversations became less
But maybe I’ve spoken too soon, maybe there’s a chance for something new
Maybe I’m too hasty, maybe my thoughts are abrupt and askew
But without worrying about the future and in writing this there are lessons to be learned
Meeting you alone has taught me so much, changed me so much, and like a brand in my thoughts has been burned
I know now not to search for love, or hope for marriage, or another day
Everything that has happened has happened, and everything that will come is on its way
“Not every heart belongs to any other,”
And with that being said I’ll say “You and I may not be meant for each other,”
But why can’t we have good times together?
Knowing these things makes us stronger
Deep down inside I’ll always hope for these things to last a little longer
As long as we’re living each day thinking it may be our last
And as long as the painful things that happen continually fade into the past
What’s wrong with a little happiness at last.
