The Highlanderz name was originally formed in 1999. With the mainstream consistently releasing trash, and the public openly accepting it, 3 MCs intensified their efforts. The Highlanderz originally consisted of Kazt, Vecs 1, and Anom. From 2000 to 2001, the group will have released a 5 song ep, performed at various Jersey venues, created their local following, and hit various Jersey college radio stations. The Highlanderz had the ep in circulation, were featured on a mixtape released by Japray Wright of Beat Ups Studios in NWK NJ, things seemed to be going as planned. In 2002, due to conflicts of interest, Kazt left the group. The group goes into temporary hiatus. Without solid prospects for promotion or production, the Highlanderz seemed to be plagued with uncertainty. After a short while, the group re-evaluates and recruits one of their close friends and member of their crew, Split Personality. In present day, the Highlanderz consists of Split Personality, Vecs 1, and Anom. Each member of the group has distinct voices, styles and different views in general. What binds them and creates that essential balance in their music is that they are each original and vibrant. The Highlanderz have shared the stage at shows or open mics with names such as, Black Sheep, Akir, Sean Price, Monsta Island Czars, Immortal Technique, Arcane, Cy Marshall Law, Sabac Red of Non Phixion, Mr. Metaphor of Brooklyn Academy, Prince Po of Organized Konfusion and others. They have been hitting stages in the Tri-state area and will soon travel the rest of the East Coast.
