About Me

Graceful, challenging, unguarded, powerful: Such are the songs of Jaclyn Brown. Known as a writer of intelligent and catchy songs in the country / folk / pop vein, Jaclyn will soon be considered a preeminent singer/songwriter in the South and beyond. With a degree in Studio and Jazz Vocal Performance from the University of Miami School of Music in Florida, the prolific Brown capitalizes on a diversity of influences and experiences in crafting some of the most poignant songs to emerge from her generation. Although she frequently travels to Miami and New York, Jaclyn makes her home in Nashville. Her bright voice and matching smile make audiences feel at home whenever shes on stage. Unsolicited Material, her newest CD of original songs (September 2005), features Browns best songs, many of which have been cut by other artists, but all arranged in her own country-folk storyteller style. Growing up in Nashville with a session pianist for a father, Brown had many opportunities to hear and learn from established artists and writers, from country singer Brenda Lee to Broadway casting director Dave Clemmons. In high school, Jaclyn attended Interlochen Arts Camp and the Tennessee Governors School for the Arts. She also sang backup for many artists, including Jamie ONeal and Kathy Mattea. In her college years, Brown had the good fortune to land an internship with country singer/songwriter Lari White and her husband, hit songwriter Chuck Cannon. White and Cannon greatly encouraged and inspired her to continue writing and performing her thoughtful and timeless songs, no matter what musical fluff might be considered popular. Jaclyn is currently freelancing as a session singer and is pursuing a publishing deal. You can currently catch Jaclyn performing her original tunes at various clubs around the country. Jaclyn enjoys and writes all styles of music, and is heavily influenced by songwriters like Diane Warren and Chuck Cannon, as well as classic songwriters such as Duke Ellington, Joni Mitchell, and James Taylor. The great thing about being a singer and a songwriter is that it enables you to say whatever you want to say in whatever voice you want to use, says songstress Jaclyn Brown. I cant sing a Kid Rock song, but maybe I can write one.
