In an Interview with Hu2.org:
Long time friends of Team Hu2, and one of the most prominent car clubs on the East Coast, the Jade Crew is still taking the Import Show Circuit by storm. Most of these dedicated tuners have been in the business for more than a decade, and their hard work has paid off in features ranging from Import Tuner magazines to extras in the 2 Fast 2 Furious movie. If you haven't heard of them already, you're clearly not paying enough attention to the Import Scene. I wanted to let our viewers know a lil' more about the Jade Crew, so I talked with James B., owner of the eccentric BMW M Roadster, and this is what he had to say.
Hu2: Ok, so what's the story?
James: “Russ, Chad, Ralph, JJ, and Ben decided 'Jade' had a nice ring to it, seemed to fit us, and was a completely original vibe compared to the names of other car clubs we competed against. Russ (the prez) immediately got to work designing the 'OG side-circle logos' which when we rolled it, it was way ahead of it's time and everyone loved the look of it. Our original logo was possibly the most ripped off southeast car club logo of all time. Little did we know Jade would blow up into what it has become today.â€
Hu2: How many official members do you have, and how long has the crew been established?
James: “The official date is Oct. 1997, although Jade had been showing earlier. As for members, we regard several longtime members with no show cars as 'granfathered' in so approximately 25.â€
Hu2: Yeah, ya'll are definitely Old-Skool. How many team trophies do you think the crew has won so far?
James: “To be honest with you? I don't have an exact count but I know we have been awarded several hundred awards and trophies throughout the years (enough to fill up a 2000 sq ft warehouse). If we melted all the trophies up, I'm sure we would have enough metal to create another show car.â€
Hu2: Nice, you guys should really consider that. What's your biggest accomplishment as a team?
James: “Some in Jade would tell you it's the movies, documentaries, magazine features and dvd's we've been in. Others would say it's the room-full of awards we've won and the big-baller companies who sponsor and put their trust in us. But in my eyes, our biggest accomplishment has been the fact that the original founders and members have stayed close like 'brothers' for almost 10 years now. It's amazing to me that we are all such close friends. What started as a car club, truly turned into a second family for most of us.â€
Hu2: Definitely the key to success in the industry. So, tell me, who's tuned the most cars?
James: “That would be Ben Duen. Some of the guys in the crew joke that Ben goes through more cars than some people have underwear over the years.â€
Hu2: Haha. Sweet. What's the single most expensive mod a member has done?
James: “The most expensive mod we've done, is some of our members actually buy secondary cars to color match or make into drift cars or secondary 'beater cars' that eventually end up 'modded out' to match the original project car. A new trend started by our Prez is buying sports bikes (motorcycles) and having them custom painted to match the Jade cars.â€
Hu2: Import bikes, the new era of Jade!?. Hmmm. Well, how can our viewers stay up to date with the latest info on the Jade Crew?
James: “ Simple. JadeCrew.com. And also, watching tv and reading about Jade features at your local magazine racks. â€
