Greetings space cadets! Welcome to the music of 'Eutopia'. The Greek term 'Eutopia' means a 'perfect, safe and good place', which is the same of our music and our fans! The band features the playing of guitar virtuoso, Alexander Kotziamanis, who is the main driving and creative force behind this super-group. Alexander is left handed and yet plays the guitar right handed. (Darn, I'm right handed and I'm still wondering how he does those mad arpeggios with tapping?!?! -I guess that's why I'm never going to play pro! - ed.) Alexander is totally self-taught. 'I was 15, and I saw my bro playing guitar with another friend.... and I just thought..I can do that, easy! So that's when I began to learn. I could only play two things for a whole year -'missi' (mississippi) blues' and the beginning four bars of a Def Leppard song called 'Women'. I thought I was just awesome....my parents and friends thought otherwise!!' I took Leppard, Van Halen, Bon Jovi , The Police, Deep Puple, Coverdale, Megadeth, Zeppelin, Free, Clapton, Duran Duran, Theodorakis, Hadgidakis, Dalaras, Alexiou, Hendrix, Queen, Yngwie, Di Meola, Abba, Elvis, John Williams, Cat Stevens, SRV, Beach Boys, J.S Bach, A. Vivaldi, Haydn, Handel, W.A Mozart and Beethoven....put them in the blender, and Eutopia is the result!' (real haute cuisine! haha! ed)
Alexander plays Fender guitars. He is also particularly fond of the HM series strats and Vintage sunburst electrics. For Amplification Alexanders main driving tone is found in Marshall amplification, but he is also very keen on the tones of Fender vintage amps also. A big fan of vintage and modern effects, Alexander uses Keeley,T-Rex, Morley and Boss pedal units.
On bass is Luca Forlani. Luca to put it bluntly is an extremely talented bass player. After a recent live performance the audience was left stunned by the tight and virtuous playing. With over 15 years of playing the instrument, mainly in hard/prog rock bands in Italy and UK Luca is experienced and dynamic. influences include progressive rock bands such as Queensryche, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Rush through to classic hard rock like Whitesnake, Van Halen, Europe, all the way to more cross-genre bands such as Toto, The Police, Dixie Dregs and even Yanni. There are many bass players that have inspired him, but to mention 3 or 4... "Dave La Rue (Steve Morse Band/Dixie Dregs), Stuart Hamm, Billy Sheehan and Robert Trujillo. The bass player who inspired me to pick the bass when I was a kid, though, was Steve Harris". Luca mainly plays a Peavey Cirrus 5 strings, but depending on the situation he also uses a Yamaha TRB5PII tuned EADGC and a Charvel 4 strings fretless.
The Rhythm section is completed by our Skins mechanic -Dave Thurlby! Described by Alexander as the guy who 'keeps us all in check!' with his great sense of timing and balanced playing style. Dave is influenced by instrumental acts like 'SKY' but is also known to love the lush rock styles of 'Aerosmith', 'Toto' and 'Pink Floyd'. With great drive and determination, Dave is continually seeking 'that' drum tone. Dave uses Yamaha drum kits with Paiste cymbals.
The Band are truly dedicated to their art of writing, what is best described as 'romantic solid power metal pop!' Citing influences from Beethoven to Elvis to Def Leppard to Greek traditional music, this is a very eclectic musical background.
