About Me

Mushi..s music doesn..t sound like anything else on the Danish music-stage. His style is catchy, a touch of melancholy pop/rock with a great deal of western/Balcan/folk/cabaret and a pinch of salsa. But - and that is important - it is always on the move. The album "unfairytales" is imbued with catchy refrains, use of untraditional musical instruments and never-ending surprises.
His music is characterized by its versatility and the international feel. Not much in Mushi..s music smells like the backwaters of Denmark. His music is a dogged confrontation with narrowing limits and strict ideas of what mainstream music is supposed to sound like. And it is done without being too narrow or hard to understand: the catchy tunes are given high priority. As for the lyrics Mushi has a lot on his mind. They are centered around the tragicomic and bizarre sides of life - always made with a twinkle in the eye.
Rasmus Fynbo is the man behind Mushi, which is a solo project. Fynbo is by and large an autodidact and has in no way been urged to create music ( rather the opposite ), but in mild defiance he has written and produced music throughout the last 15 years and has catalogue in excess of 500 songs.
In 2004 he published his first cd "Unbelonging", which was highly praised by the underground press. Now Mushi is back with a harmonious album "Unfairytales", which has been on its way for two years. All tracks have been recorded several times, before they hit their final version. The fact that 18 musicians have taken part in this cd indicates the dimensions of this project and the indomitable energy that Mushi has put into this two-year-long proces.
On "Unfairytales" Fynbo has first and foremost been a singer, a songwriter and a producer. Throughout long recording-sessions he has directed the different musicians and from their performances he has extracted precisely what was needed to underline that very special Mushi-sound. So even though assisted by so many different musicians Mushi has suceeded in maintaining a style, which is entirely his own. A style whish is in line with Elliott Smith, Calexico, Ennio Morricone, Kaizers, Aimee Mann, Eels and last but not least The Beatles.
