Better to say what I'm NOT interested in. I don't much care for TV...this includes PBS. I've never been a good ice skater...I have crappy ankles. Running is also not a favored activity, but I'll do it in the interest of losing weight. Cleaning the bathroom is not fun for me. I don't like spiders. I don't like dead animal parts when they're decorations. And anything pretentious is a big turn-off. Other than this, I'm open to pretty much anything.I consider myself to be an Alaska Native activist and am an attorney for this reason alone. So if it has anything to do with Alaska Native issues, I'm interested.
Anybody interesting and fun. People who take themselves too seriously drive me nuts. People who take ME too seriously drive me nuts. But generally, I can find the good parts of most folks (given the opportunity) and therefore genuinely like most anybody on some level.
Again, it's easier to discuss music I don't like. Anything repetitive is annoying, like techno. Some singers' voices can be annoying, like Neil Young (though I admit that I like his music). Christian pop music is a turn-off just because the whole "God" thing isn't my thing. But I do like gospel and traditional pieces...this is art. "Pop" country is kind of icky, too...give me Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash. Outside of this, I will try anything once (when it comes to music, that is).
I LOVE MOVIES. I'm not too into the whole porn movie thing, however (though I acknowledge that porn movies have their place in the world). But that's about it. If it's a movie, I will usually watch it at least once unless it's obvious that it is a complete and utter waste of time. I may hate it by the end, but I've only walked out of a movie theatre once ("Waterworld") and I don't recall when I've ever turned off a movie midstream at home.
Okay, so I hate TV now. But when I was a kid, I was a massive TV junkie. My favorite shows were "The Incredible Hulk," (because who doesn't want to turn big and green and scare the crap out of people every now and again?) "The Dukes of Hazzard," (the show was COMPLETELY stupid but I had a bad crush on John Schneider) "Sesame Street," (70s-80s Sesame Street, before Elmo came along and ruined it) "The Electric Company," (Morgan Freeman and his afro ROCK) "Wonder Woman" (Lynda Carter and her blue eyes...), and "The Amazing Spider-Man" (the late-70s version with the kid from the Sound of Music). So I will watch these shows (to the extent they are available on DVD) purely for their nostalgic value. Also, I have gotten sucked into the "Seinfeld" thing because the shit is FUNNY and I LIKE funny. So I have those on DVD. But I won't watch TV and you can't make me.
I will try anything. There are a few authors whom I've tried and now refuse to read. Dana Stabenow is one. Rita Mae Brown is another. I have no patience for crappy writing.
This is a dumb thing to ask but if I were under duress in answering it, I would have to say that my heroes would be people who own their baggage and don't try to dump it on others. Also, I admire anybody who overcomes or at least doesn't inherit their parents' shit. People who do the work in therapy. People who aren't afraid of losing the status quo. Them's my kind of people. But this is a dumb question and I will not dignify it further.
