"inspiring and different to anything else about"

About Me

The Accord are a pychedelic/shoegaze/indie act from Cleethorpes in the UK. They are well known for thier great amount of experentalism, anthemic songs and energetic live shows. The band has just released its first EP Soul Journey available to download on Itunes, Rhapsody, emusic, music.com , amazon mp3 , groupie tunes and fuzz, Considered to be by far thier greatest recorded output the EP manages to take the listener on a "journey" through beautiful songs, inventive instrumentals and lush dreamlike soundscapes. The band consists of Sam Simmons on Vocal and Rythm Guitar, Callum Procter on Lead Guitar and Vocals, Tariq Rashid on Bass and Rich McCormick on Drums.

Just stumbled upon The Accord after following a link from a Bad Ornament bulletin about a one of their gigs.
Uninspired name again, but have learned not to let that put me off.
The music:
"Glide" is the first track I hear, and I am reluctant to make comparisons to early Stone Roses as this may be seen as encouraging. I like Early Stone Roses because it was new for the time - 20 years ago! The early Roses tracks are for me quite hard to listen to and for that reason I skipped Glide fairly early into the track. Listening back now after hearing the other songs it makes more sense and I am warming to it second time around. It’s ok.
Next track "I Feel Your Love" is gorgeous. At the risk of making a ridiculous sounding analogy it’s a bit like falling off a cloud and landing on a jellyfish. lol.
I can’t quite put my finger on what third track "In Heaven" reminds me of. I think its Stone Roses again, but more refined than before. Still not breaking far enough away from its influences for me, but has stronger melodies than "Glide" and maintains the dreamy bouyancy of "I Feel Your Love". Still retro to the point of dated ... but very nice.
In case it has not come accross, I enjoyed listening to The Accord and would like to hear more of their music. So, job well done!
Matt
