Lead singer Richard Dutton gave one of those performances that would have definitely made them happy they'd made the effort to travel. Dry Ice is not required for a So and So's set as they each get through enough fags to envelop the whole stage in a veil of smoke - god knows what they're gonna do come the smoking ban. Even if these emaciated working class lads may not intend to live forever some of their blisteringly awesome songs should have that honour. They are fuckin' immense. From the opening effort it was intelligent, passionate, edge of the seat stuff. The subtly that they have established within massive powerful guitar play is heart in the mouth exciting. You would have to be a extremely hard of hearing not to recognise a seriously significant band playing a deep, dark indie sound with confidence and swagger. These guys may look like they haven't eaten a decent meal in several years and may be living on a preferred diet of fags alcohol but his has obviously been in aid of the massive effort to define an inventive and assured music. The three guitar interplay is exhilarating, never overblown, the careful poise and understatement suggest a control that is simply impressive. Vocal lines also showed plenty of that restraint, keeping the focus on the songs not on the performer and making the delivery all the more intriguing. Dutton has plenty of masculine charisma with a hint of that waywardness that keeps you wondering if it's all gonna go apeshit at any moment. It's very watchable.
