About Me

The Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company's primary service area encompasses 58 square miles of Loudoun County, Virginia, the second fastest growing county in the United States. Within our area is Leesburg, Virginia, the second most populous town in Virginia. Covering roughly 12 square miles, Leesburg is home to over 37,000 people and it serves as the county seat for Loudoun. The town is also home to Leesburg Executive Airport, a busy facility that boasts a single 5,500-foot runway. With our area's explosive growth has come a tremendous increase in the need for service from the fire department. To meet the needs of the community, the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company operates two stations that house 5 pumpers, 2 brush units, 1 ladder truck, 2 command vehicles, a foam trailer, a "canteen", and soon to be a tiller truck.Active operational members of the fire company are assigned to a duty crew. The duty crews work a rotating schedule to provide in-station coverage for one to two pieces of apparatus. When needed, additional members of the fire company will respond to either station to staff additional apparatus. For many years, the operations of the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company were entirely handled by volunteer staff. As the town has grown, the calls have increased and our members now work further and further away from town. In 2000, the fire company requested that Loudoun County place a paid crew of firefighters in Station 20 during the daytime hours, Monday through Friday. Beginning June 30th, 2005, Loudoun County placed additional career personnel at Station 20 in response to a request from Company 1's membership. The additional staffing support cross staffing between Truck 1 and Rescue Engine 1. Additionally, career coverage was expanded to 7 days per week, 12 hours per day. There are now two shifts totaling 14 people who work a varying schedule that ensures at least seven of them are on duty each day from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
