About Me

There are now 838 political killings in the Philippines, 84 are women. The latest victim was Che Che Gandiano who was murdered earlier this week for testifying to UN Special Rapporteur Prof. Philip Alston about the politically motivated murder of her father-in-law. Progressive politicians like Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza -- GABRIELA women's partylist Congresswoman -- are under attack.
Gabriela Network, Chicago chapter has been active since it was founded in 1989. We aim to support programs, events, education, and space for filipina herstory and development. We encourage a safer climate to create social justice through various mediums of art and education. We strive for a sisterhood built on genuine support and honor for our stories, the stories of womyn in the philippines, and of our ancestors before us. We connect our experiences in the U.S. with the Philippines as an agent for change. We honor all filipinas and womyn in race, class, sexuality, spirituality, and ability. We aim to create leadership among filipina and filipina-ams with a collective focus. We are in direct solidarity with GABRIELA Philippines, the largest and only multi-sectoral umbrella network of over 250 women's organizations.
other Gabriela Network chapters include:
Bay Area, New York/New Jersey, Los Angeles, DC, Seattle, Irvine, San Diego.]
----------------
GABRIELA Network is a Philippine-US women's solidarity mass organization. GABNet provides the means by which Filipinas in the US can empower themselves, functions as training ground for women's leadership, and articulates the women's point of view. GABNet effects change through organizing, educating, fundraising, networking, and advocacy.
