Essence Banbury

Essence started off as a Progressive and Uplifting Trance night at JT's in Banbury in early 2004.
As it heads into its 5th year it has made the transition from pub to club, evolved, and now accomodates a wide range of styles including House, Progressive, Electro & Tech House, and of course, not wanting to leave their roots behind or bandwagon jump - all varieties of Trance!
As always Essence is about the music - no gimicks, no teasers, just fine tunes, welcoming crowd and fantastic atmosphere - so come and join us at the Liquid Lounge every 3rd Satuday of the month on rotation with our good friends at Hullaballoo!
Hosted by Caz, expect to see big names aswell as up and coming talent!

Essence - how it came about and a brief history........
Bored of the non existent trance scene in and around the Leamington Spa area Ben and Caroline from Southam decided once and for all to start their own night. They persuaded Bob owner of a little backstreet pub to give them a shot. Some friends had previously done a night there called Desire so they knew the place had potential.
So in April 2004 Essence was born. It was a very humble beginning, playing only to a few regulars who really didn't pay that much attention, they were just happy dancing to whatever was being played but Ben and Caroline were having great fun djing, and it was loads cheaper than a night out clubbing anyway!
Caroline, started to lose interest in djing, and took a back seat to concentrate on networking and promoting the night. So with advertising on the internet, Mixmag, and through word of mouth Essence and its loyal fan base started to grow. People were actually travelling to this night, in a tiny bar in the middle of nowhere, and by the end of the year Essence was here to stay!
In 2005 as the brand grew, rising stars of the scene from all over the country were invited to play, and there was no shortage of away gigs too.
Ben played at the "Inspiration" Tsunami charity event organised by Caroline and some friends in assosiation with MattHardwick.com, and played after Matt Hardwick himself at another charity event called "Mind the Bollocks" that was in aid of Everyman.
With a couple of Vs nights under their belt - F.T.M's in Southampton, and Fusion* in Leamington, they held a one off event in Ben's home town called "Stockton Sound System" with other respected local dj's including Godskitchen and Pacha regular Steve Haines
It was the Autumn of that year when Ben and Caroline realised this was more than just a night in a backstreet pub. It was party time! Every single night was packed and people coming down were known on first name terms. The atmosphere was electric and nobody gave a fuck! The year was rounded off with 2 immence parties for Xmas and New Year!
After a well deserved break for January, they were back with a bang in February 2006, with guest DJ's booked to play and with lots of exciting things in the pipeline, including away gigs at HOME in Doncaster, Pressure in Rotherham and Addiction in sheffield.
So far 2006 has been unbelievable for Essence...and long may it continue.
