About Me

The Bio Of City Slick
City Slick was born Christopher Hood in 1984 on an army base deep in the bayous of Louisiana. Raised as an "Army brat", he moved around frequently in the early years of his life. He finally settled into the comfort of the south side of Chicago's lower half known as The Lows. There, Slick was introduced to the smooth and melodic sounds of R&B artists such as: New Edition, Aaliyah, R.Kelly, and Gerald Lavert. However, in the year of 1994, he was introduced to another beast all together by his older cousin. That monster was known as Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. The spitfire but harmonious sound was infectious to him. This prompted him to write his first flow at the age of 9.
However, this would also be his last rhyme when he moved from Chicago 300 miles down the road to Springfield. He wouldn't pick up his pen again until his senior year at Southeast High School. Even though rhyming was never important, it was always in the back of Slick's mind. It wouldn't be until his 5 month 2004 tour in Fallujah, Iraq, where he experienced the death of friend and fellow Marine, CPL. Adrian Saltau and almost becoming victim of war himself twice, that he found his calling. Writing would provide a huge stress relief that somehow drawing wouldn't.
Unfortunately, there wouldn't be an outlet until almost a year and a half lafter he relocated to Junction City, Kansas. This is where he met local Wichita, Kansas artist Nut Case, who gave him the name "Chi C". After a few weeks, Chi would change the "C" to "City" and his career was officially born. After being introduced to InZpired MindZ Entertainment artists, he would audition and become the fifth artist on the roster. Since then, Slick has relocated once more to Southern California and has since released his debut mixtape, City Boy Vol. One: Top Of Da World, and is also featured on the Midwest InVasion compilation mixtape. He has since parted ways with InZpired MindZ Ent. due to creative differences. After changing his name from Chi City to ReAKTion to City Slick, he has teamed up with a fellow underground artist by the name of Rictor Scales.Slick is now currently hard at work on his collabaritive mixtape effort with Ric Scales with the always ever present Ladie T by his side.

"Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man’s sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice. Justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love. " -- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King JR.

"I am America. I am the part you won’t recognize. But get used to me. Black, confident, cocky; my name, not yours; my religion, not yours; my goals, my own; get used to me." -- Muhammad Ali
