The Rhythm Kings' frontman,
Henry Perez, aka "River City Slim",
has been influenced by such notable artists
as listed in the Influences Section.
'It's just one big melting pot.
You listen and borrow from each one's style,
and you develop your own. You gain from their expertise.'
The Rhythm Kings have been around 20 plus years, with various
personnel changes over that course of time. Along the way,
they have collected 5 CURRENT MUSIC AWARDS,
in 1989, '90, '94, '95, & 2000, and have recorded two CDs.
The CDs are "Done Deal" & "Some Kinda Lovin",
and the group is currently in the process of
releasing their third CD, which is a "live" recording.Aside from working the regular local scene, the band
has shared the stage with various artists and legends,
such as John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, Omar & The
Howlers, Sam & Dave, Augie Meyers, Doug Sahm, Sue
Foley, The Arc Angels, Lazy Lester, and The
Romantics. In 1999, Henry toured Finland as frontman
with The Texas Blues Band.Henry's brother, Roy, is the bassist. The notes that
come across from Roy's Fender Precision Bass are
unmistakeably his own invention. Roy's playing is so
expansive, the Rhythm Kings have no need for a
rhythm guitar. Like his brother, Roy's influences
range from rock, blues, cajun, jazz, etc. The tight
soulful binding connections between the bass & drums,
clear the path for "Slim" to rev it up and cut loose!
Although Henry is very committed to the blues, Roy
brings a little humor to their show during their performance.
The third party to this trio is Rene Segura, on Drums &
Percussion. He keeps a steady beat with precise
authority. Whether shuffling or rocking out, the veteran
drummer keeps the groove together with his accurate
timing and powerful backbeat. If you have not yet seen this group perform,
they are a "must see"!
