Welcome Friends of the Bass and the Backbeat!

About Me

Hi and thanks for checking out my music!
I've been playing the Bass since I was 13. Here are some of the great moments of my journey...
Started playing music with my best friend Guitarist STEVE CAYCE back in Junior High. (Steve, thanks for talking me into playing the Bass so that you'd be the guitar player!) Started some lessons with BOBBY PETERS and MICHAEL SCUITO...Local Bass Heros in the BALTIMORE area back in the 70's.
Learned how to read music (But not enough to hurt my playin'!) through Essex Community College....Teachers - Arnold Craver, Ashton Fletcher, Dr.Asher Zlotnik, Chris Wolfe, Carol Kingsmore, Arne Lindquist.
Went to the MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL 1977 in Montruex, Switzerland with the Pamoja Experience...which led to.playing Bass with... ETTA JAMES - Live in Montreux 1977 with some great players...including, Etta's Musical Director/Guitarist BRIAN RAY (Paul McCartney and Shakira), Steve Ferrone/Drums, Richard Tee/Piano, Herbie Mann/Flute, Lew Soloff/Trumpet, Rick Wakeman/Keys, Klaus Doldinger/Sax.
Professional Diploma from BERKLEE College of Music. Bass Teachers - Bruce Gertz and Whit Brown.
Went on the road with the Showband "FLORIDA". Played Atlantic City (Harrah's) Aruba, Saudi Arabia(for Aramco) and various Marriot's throughout the US....ahhhhh...those were the days.... (Keyboardist and friend Mike McKnight from that group has been in the bigtime with Earth, Wind, and Fire, Madonna, and Mariah Carey to name a few) Way to go Mike!
Moved to Tampa to play some Funky Jazz Fusion with Bob Macar and Lee Venters.
Recorded with Lee Venters on his Album "388 Marlborough Street". I contributed my first published tune 'The Voice On The Phone" and shared the Bass Chair with Victor Bailey. Other guests on the CD were Kevin Eubanks (Jay Leno) and Dean Brown (Marcus Miller).
Joined the Fred Johnson Group with percussionist GUMBI ORTIZ, now with AL DIMEOLA for the past twenty or more years. (I played Bass on an Unreleased CD with Gumbi and Keyboardist JEFF LANTZ called "GUMBI ORTIZ-SO NOW YOU KNOW" I even played a fusion Shuffle with BON JOVI"S Drummer "TICO TORRES" on the CD.
Moved to LAS VEGAS to play with SANTA FE with JERRY LOPEZ (Clint Holmes), CLETO ESCOBEDO (JIMMY KIMMEL'S Band Leader and Sax), BRUCE CONTE, original Guitarist from TOWER OF POWER.
Played Maxim Hotel Show "PLAYBOY'S GIRL'S OF ROCK AND ROLL" (A tough Gig but somebody had to do it...)
Gigs with CLINT HOLMES, opening for BILL COSBY. Moved back to Tampa for house gig with Jazz/Funk Cover band "Citiheat".
Started gigging with Citiheat at DISNEY WORLD'S Pleasure Island Jazz Company.
Became a DISNEY Cast Member gigging with the many groups that used to be throughout the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT,and Disney MGM...as well as some assorted gigs at Universal Studios... The Disney Gig's included "The Kids Of The Kingdom" (Shows at the Castle), The Hollywood Hit Men at Disney/MGM, The Candlelight Processional at EPCOT (It's Cool playing with a full Orchestra and choir with Danny Gottlieb on Drums, eh!) and the Tomorrowland Brass.
Opened "Tarzan Rocks" as Band Leader/Bassist at Disney's Animal Kingdom. (Music of PHIL COLLINS)
Played with Ex Rippington's Sax Man JEFF KASHIWA (Subbing for Melvin Davis) at The Pleasure Island Jazz Company.
"MOROCKIN!" Five days a week, Tuesday - Saturday in Morocco/EPCOT.
Played with my friend SUNNIE PAXSON (Keys/STANLEY CLARKE) live and on three tracks on her "GROOVE SUITE" CD...one with guitarist LARRY CARLTON.
But My MAIN GIG....is being a HUSBAND and a DADDY....that's what it's all about! PEACE, Dave.

John Patitucci was the judge for "BASS FACE'. It was the only Bass winning tune along with the other Guitar winners on the JAZZIZ CD "GUITARS ON FIRE-1996"
