I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure.

About Me

I am a 32 year old transplant to Oregon that moved up to Portland on a whim about 4 months ago. I received my degree in microbiology and was planning a great career in pathology, but I had some major life altering experiences and decided to stay out of medicine as a career. My focus now is on my family, traveling, and meeting new people. I have a close group of friends, but I am actually looking to meet new friends with similar or different interests. Male or female. It would be nice to meet some people from around my new home. I am Irish mostly and have an Irish name that is infamous due to part of my family being murdered. There is even a famous ghost in my family if you believe in that sort of thing. It is actually considered good luck to place coins on the gravestones bearing my family name. Yes I am 32 and have never been married nor do I have any children. Instead of starting a family right out of high school I traveled and worked on achieving the goals I set for myself when I was young. I enjoy traveling to random out of the way places. I photograph everything. I am an amateur vulcanologist and have been in love with volcanoes since I was a kid. Another hobby of mine is photographing old ghost towns like Bodie, as well as thermal hot springs of the Eastern Sierra. I still love Disneyland. I can't count the number of times I have been to hell on Mr. Toads Wild Ride and I still dig it. I drink Diet 7Up and other soda warm, but like my beer cold. As a microbiologist I am pretty handy to have around to make cheese, wine or diagnose the random disease. I studied disease in college so I am fascinated by pandemics. I can also tell you that you will more likely be taken by pneumonia than some exotic disease. I enjoy pop culture and am especially fond of urban myths. I actually teach a class that debunks myths using science. (Owen Wilson and your toilet blurb in Wedding Crashers FTW.)I have some discreet tats since my job requires me to be clean cut so I don't scare the old people. My mother hates them and has a cash bounty out for anyone that can get me to have them removed. I am quite fond of them however and they are very much a part of me. Last time I checked I had a sense of humor, was ambitious, and quite happy with my life. Oh, and I am not socially retarded so please return the favor. I am not clingy and have never fallen in love on the first date or anything. Sorry! (see my old roommate for that)There are a few personal achievements that I am pretty proud of. I paid my own way through college, graduated with honors in a tough major, am debt free, have recorded music that would stop a heart, have been in love, hiked in or over some of the most awesome mountains and glaciers in the world, and still have no cavities in my teeth. ...

My Interests

I snowboard, backpack, flying (my dad is an instructor), explore ghost towns, wind on my face, seeing the Milky Way, getting mail, sleeping in on a rainy day, soaking in hot springs, , travel, lounge, workout, offroad, game, massages, bowling, B&W photography, attending record shows, recording live shows, recycling, I dont Christmas wrap I do Christmas installations. Researching pop culture or urban myths in order to revel in debunking said myths. I do what I want and when I want. I am young enough to do it but old enough to do it right. I have been known to crash an occasional wedding or two....

I'd like to meet:

My AIM name is badgeholder15. Hit me up. I would love to chat. ...

Music:

I enjoy many types of music from techno down to the Haunted Mansion Theme music from Disneyland. My favorite band is without a doubt Led Zeppelin. I heard Physical Graffiti when I was 9 and I have been obsessed ever since. I have been a fan of Tenacious D (Jack Black's band) for years, PJ Harvey, Tool, Oakenfold, White Stripes, Fiona Apple, SRV, Misfits, Horton Heat, Depeche Mode, Digweed, U2, Mazzy Star, Ramones, Sheryl Crow and Dave Matthews for ages. Being a child of the eighties growing up in southern California I received megadoses of 80s music. I record concerts that I attend as a hobby. I am actually a prolific taper. Many of my recordings are circulating around the world so that live U2, Tool or White Stripes bootleg sitting on your shelf might have been recorded by me. I dont think I have ever read a profile that hasn't had a band that I have recorded at some point.

Movies:

I dig ALL films from John Hughes, Kevin Smith and Tim Burton. If someone mentioned the Star Wars saga I would just make the Empire argument, Office Space, The Big Lebowski, Bladerunner, LotR, Kill Bill, Shaun of the Dead, Before Sunrise, Dark Crystal, Footloose, Tron, Trainspotting, Fight Club, To Kill a Mockingbird, Slingblade,Saving Private Ryan, Harold and Maude, Gone with the Wind, Sleepy Hollow. I used to see Jack Black play at small pubs back when he was doing movies like Neverending Story II. I see any movie that he is in. I even sat through Jackyl just to see his arm get blown off. I must also mention that I have a love of campy horror films and campier kung fu films. My dad is a dead ringer for Christopher Lee so seeing a horror movie that stars him is like watching my old man in some horror flick. That is always great fun. The only movie I ever walked out of was that 13 going on 30 movie. I wanted to kill myself but figured my date wouldn't understand....

Television:

I rarely watch TV. My life is much more entertaining than anything I could see on the screen.

Books:

As a kid I went to some summer camp where I had a choice of making something out of a ribbons or learning how to speed read. I choose the later and can now blow through books faster than the disclaimer guy at the end of a commercial. Unfortunately in order to understand a few of them well I have to read them several times. I had to do Moby Dick four times. *shoots himself in head. I am proud to say it took me longer to watch Gone with the Wind than to read it. The movie was much more enjoyable. Scarlet was smoking hot and my imagination couldn't cast her like the movie did. I consider myself well read however I must admit though if I had a gun to my head and was told to write a haiku I would be pretty much dead. There was a list given to me in High School with all of these books that were "essential for college". I pretty much read them all and was kind of bitter when I actually got to college and encountered maybe four of them. I am all about the Sky Mall brochure in an airplane. :) I want to order half of the things I see, but immediately forget about them as soon as the wheels hit the ground. The last book that I read was entitled Why People Believe Weird Things and it was bloody good.

Heroes:

I am my own personal hero. I have saved my own life on many occasions. I would like to say my parents but check out the photo of me diving for the fire. My parents were slacking in their hero roles while they were playing with the camera.
