Hey, my name is Jim. I'm in my first year at ASU West. I previously attended GCC for the past three years. I have lived in Arizona for the past five years. I am originally from Michigan where I was born and raised. I love it here in Arizona, I don’t think I could ever live in a place in the widest ever again! 4 years ago I went out to the sand dunes with family and friends to go dirt biking. While riding back to camp, I hit a piece of concrete that was sticking out of the sand while traveling over 50 mph. I went over the handlebars and landed straight on my head. This caused me to crush three vertebra in my back which paralyzed me from the upper chest down. This happened on December 28, 2002. I recovered from my injury very fast and got back to my normal life as fast as I could. I do just as much as I did before my injury (if not more!). I just didn't want it to hold me back! I’m still the same me as I was before my injury!!! About 1 year after i got hurt I started working at St. Joe's Hospital. I am working part time in the community education department. We offer free programs to schools that teach kids about the importance of protecting the brain and spinal cord. This couldn’t be a better job for me right now. I love teaching kids about this subject.
