pop culture - movies, books, music, art... politics and anyone who's a little left of center, conversations that never stop, garage sale finds, my fancy new car, Trident White Cool Rush gum, emo blogs, live shows, my boyfriend and my friends, trying new things, meeting new people, drinking...alot, spades games that result in permanent injury, flip flops, hot sunglasses, New York or really anyplace that isn't Texas, my kitten, kissing strangers, road trips, shaggy hair, text messages and basically anything you're willing to pay for.
People who appreciate self-deprecating wit. Indie rock boys and chicks that don't suck. Old friends. New friends. Alcoholics. You. Anyone who wants to give me money. Mostly I'd like to meet people who understand that half the shit I say is nonsense.
Oh, and John Cusack.
Brand New, Straylight Run, OKgo, Alkaline Trio, They Might Be Giants, Something Corporate, Bright Eyes, The Chemistry Set, Bowling For Soup, The Burden Brothers, Modest Mouse, The Juliana Theory, Simon and Garfunkel, Matchbox Twenty, Our Lady Peace, Jeff Buckley, The Cure, Cake, Rocket Summer, Death Cab For Cutie, Jimmy Eat World, The Killers, The Postal Service, Blue October, Kanye West, Kasey Chambers, Bloc Party, Oasis, Elvis Costello, Jack's Mannequin, Snow Patrol, Alanis Morissette, Mandy Moore Billy Idol, Elton John, Leonard Cohen.
I also have an unhealthy obsession with the 80's.
A few favorites: High Fidelity, Pulp Fiction, Dazed n Confused, Office Space, Fast Times, Bend It Like Beckham, Love Actually, Closer, Garden State, Down With Love, Pride & Prejudice (really, any Jane Austin book made into a movie), In Her Shoes, Knocked Up and Wedding Crashers.
In general: documentaries, girly movies, anything British, anything with John Cusack, Philip Seymour Hoffman or Vince Vaughn, old movies (especially Audrey Hepburn) anything by Cameron Crowe, Oliver Stone or Kevin Smith. I'm easily amused, so I'll basically watch anything.
Well, since Gilmore Girls has ended and Veronica Mars has suffered a tragic and premature death, I've found a few replacements: Lost, Jericho, Grey's Anatomy, SVU, Chuck and Pushing Daisies. If none of those are on then there's a 95% chance I'm watching HGTV.
I read incessantly and insatiably, and almost every book I read becomes a favorite, so the best I can offer is a top 5, subject to change at any time without warning.
1) Prep - Curtis Sittenfeld
2) Little Earthquakes - Jennifer Weiner
3) Phantom - Susan Kay
4) A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Betty Smith
5) Where The Heart Is - Billie Letts
As a general rule: chick lit, the beats, contemporary fiction and young adult lit are the most likely candidates. And I'm a Harry Potter fanatic, so in the absence of anything better to read, I will always reread that series.
whoever invented wine. Cheers to that guy.
