About Me

these tracks were recorded at Jamaican musician Sak Thomas' Coney Island basement studio in the winter of 2005. Sak's brother Bravo masterfully engineered the sound. Being so cold it was hard to tell if it was our breath we were seeing or the herbal smoke filling the air. Sak played bass, his elder son Damian on keys, Early B on drums, and Sugarcane on lead guitar. Later, after a rift between Sak and Bravo, the track "Don't See Dub" was taken to Vibromonk studio in Williamsburg where Israeli engineer Tamar overdubbed Sak's vocals on "Your Eyes Don't See," and "Lion of Judah." After the falling out between the brothers, Bravo left the group, keeping the band name Censor City. The remaining members, along with Tokyo guitarist Toshi Otani, did some shows backing Fela's Princess Kush in Flatbush, Coney Island, and New Haven. and are now known as $ugarcane $ound $ystem. Princess Kush is now in Nigeria making music videos, Sugarcane went to jail for drug traffiking with East Village Pharmacy, and Sak relocated with his family to Jamaica where he is probly cooking up some tasty cuisine at this very moment. stir it up...
