Grandmaster William McDonald began his training in 1972 in Texas. with extensive training throughout his life, Grandmaster McDonald has attained several titles through his martial arts education. Including a 6th degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon-Do, a 2nd degree Black Belt in Moo Duk Kwan, 1st degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate, Instructors level in Muay Thai & Masters level in the art of Kubudo (weapons). In addition to this, Grandmaster McDonald has also competed in national and international tournaments throughout his career.
Over the years, Grandmaster McDonald has achieved outstanding recognition in the martial arts industry. Creator of the Hot Shots Anti-kidnapping/Safety Awareness program for children and the Survivors Self-Defense/Self-Empowerment program for adults in 1994, which became a stepping-stone of the system Tong Il Lo Martial Science, Grandmaster William McDonald has educated and promoted thousands of students througout the United States. Being well known as an innovator of the martial arts, he coined the International Combative Martial Arts Association (ICMAA), in 1998, to help network martial artist throughout the different systems. Further, he has promoted full contact competition through the creation of Tushka Itishe (Warrior Spirit).
Deing recognized by the martial art community for such accomplishments, the Texas Martial Arts Hall of Fame inducted him as “Master Instructor of the Year†in 1998. He was also acknowledged by the Hall of Fame for his leadership & developmental skills with the youth & was his system was inducted in 2000 for “Youth Development Program of the Year.†In addition to this, Grandmaster McDonald was presented the “Samurai Sword of Honor†by Grandmaster Allen Steen (Father of Texas Karate), for his dedication to better develop & promote the martial arts. Grandmaster McDonald was honored by United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame by inducting him as “Martial Art Founder of the Year†in 2002. More recently, the International Martial Arts Headfounders-Grandmaster’s Council promoted him to 10th Degree Black Belt, the highest recognized level in martial arts. After receiving this recognition, the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame once again honored him by the induction of “Grandmaster of the Year†in 2003. Finishing off that year, he was the first Grandmaster chosen to receive an award from Who’s Who in Martial Arts for his outstanding achievements. After seeing the outstanding accomplishments Grandmaster McDonald has achieved in his life time, the Texas Martial Arts Hall of Fame has elected him as a member of the Board of Directors in 2004.
Today, Grandmaster William McDonald has been recognized in over 60 countries as a leading martial art spokesman and authority. Having been a co-hosting for several months with the top rated broadcast martial art media show, known as Karate Kast, he has become both informative and entertaining to many practitioners. In addition, Grandmaster McDonald is sought throughout the communities as a speaker for leadership and youth development.
It is his life long goal to expand the teachings of Tong Il Lo throughout the world and to help dissolve the boundaries of prejudice and conflicting ideals between individuals and establish unity through the expression of his teachings.
