knitting, history, antiques, geneology, wandering thru old graveyards and puzzling out the clues, collecting stories, cooking with my antiquated kitchenware, playing Katamari (my secret shame)
Anyone with a story to tell or inspiration to share.
Elliott Smith, Liam Frost and the Slowdown Family, Sleater-Kinney, White Stripes, Beatles, Gershwin, Donovon, Quasi, White Stripes....most things, really.....
Any bad, laughable horror movie, something entertaining to knit to, and The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra
Antiques Roadshow, Cash in the Attic, History Detectives, POV, Nova, documentaries, and nerdy stuff like that. Also, Daily Show, Colbert Report, Countdown with Keith Olberman, Meet the Press, and Family Guy.
i read mostly nonfiction, historical whatnots. i like david sedaris' essays, and usually the fiction that hilary recommends. and anything by jonathan lethem, but especially 'as she climbed across the table' and 'motherless brooklyn'. and i'm hopelessly in love with the harry potter series. i will also read anything and everything written by laurel thatcher ulrich, because she has a wonderful way of telling women's stories. and also: brave new world, 1984, animal farm, jude the obscure, tess of the d'urbervilles, if you give a mouse a cookie, ferdinand, i and thou, the giving tree, discovering the body's wisdom, shel silverstein's poems, the return of martin guerre, amphigory (all three of them), still life with woodpecker, another roadside attraction, even cowgirls get the blues, breakfast of champions, galapagos, mother night, jailbird, slaughterhouse five, tipping the velvet, poems by hafiz, anything by junichiro tanizaki, most things by mishima, lolita, tracy chevalier's works, basically.... if you recommend it, i'll give it a try.
I don't believe in them, yet I manage to find a new one every day.
