The Cryers started out as an acoustic original band in 1991 in Brooklyn, New York. In 1993, band founder Joe Orlando asked Belle Liao to join the band to sing and play keyboards. Her response was yes. However, her conditions were that the band rehearse for a year then go out and perform. Joe's response to that was, "..........you have 13 days to learn 18 songs.....are you in or out?..."
14 days later The Cryers performed at a club in Brookyln, New York with the lovely Belle at the keyboards.
In the winter of 2002, Joe and Belle asked solo performer and bluesman Jeff Brown to join the band as vocalist and rhythm guitarist. After various lead guitarists came and went (you know them...the stars), Joe pointed to Jeff one day just before a gig and said, "...Jeffy, you're the lead guitarist..!"
In the summer of 2002, The Cryers decided to take a bold step and take control of their musicial lives.
In August of that year The Cryers produced their first show at the Algonquin Arts Theatre in New Jersey.
"Rockin at The Algonquin" featured The Cryers, Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere and The Raiders and Gary Lewis and The Playboys.
Since then The Cryers have created and produced shows with Pete Noone of Hermans Hermits, The Tokens, Bobby Lewis, Denny Laine, Joey Molland, Ian Mitchell....and so many more.
In 2003 and 2004, The Cryers produced shows and performed with the great Laurence Juber, former Wings lead guitarist.
In 2005, The Cryers produced a tour for The Cryers, of course, and Billy J Kramer and The Pete Best Band. This year has been an exciting one for the band. The Cryers toured as The Bay City Rollers with Ian Mitchell, opened up for The Pete Best Band and created "The Fab 42..A Rock n Roll Spectactular", that featured The Cryers, Ian Mitchel, Denny Laine, Joey Molland and Billy J Kramer.
On August 5, 2006, The Cryers performed with Laurence Juber at their school, The Monmouth Academy of Musical Arts in Morganville, New Jersey.
LJ was amazing and previewed his new CD, " I Got The World On Six Strings", his tribute to the great compiser, Harold Arlen.
The Cryers just came back from a tour of Canada with Bay City Roller, Ian Mitchell and will return to The Great White North in February. Along the way they have performed on live TV and radio and visited Pennsylvania. Virginia, and Massachusetts.
On December 1st, the talented Vienna Teng performed at The Monmouth Academy and Cryers Bassist and Academy owner, Joe Orlando played the standup on Vienna's great song, "Nothing Without You".
