Stand-up comedian, actor, and writer, the versatile Buddy Lewis is a native son of Gary, Indiana; a graduate of Howard University in Washington, DC; and a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Buddy has performed stand-up in clubs, colleges, and other venues across the country for over 12 years and has made two appearances on HBOs Def Comedy Jam and three on BETs Comic View including the upcoming season. Buddy has opened for superstar acts Patti Labelle, Chris Rock, Tommy Davidson and the late Robin Harris. In addition to his work as a stand up, Buddy has labored behind the scenese for many years as a writer and a consultant on shows including Def Comedy Jam, BETs Holla, and Vibe. Most recently, he worked on the 2003 ESPY Awards Show, writing for host Jamie Foxx. He is also contributing staff writer to Comedy: The Magazine.
Buddys stand up gigs do not represent all of his work on stage. Last fall, Buddy received great reviews as the dimwitted bodyguard Q in Debbie Allens adaptation of the Grimm fairy tale Snow White called Pearl. This production enjoyed an extended run at the famed Geffen Theatre in Los Angeles. His other stage work has included a run as a featured performer in Shelly Garretts play Doing the Right Thing With the Wrong Man. And in 2001, Buddys performance of Uncle Ray in the national tour of The Fabric of a Man wowed audiences across the nation, garnering him a prestigious Best Supporting Actor Theatre Award from the Beverly Hills/Hollywood Chapter of the NAACP.
Ever a versatile talent, Buddy has appeared on the big screen as well. Audiences may remember his debut role as the bartender in Woo, starring Jada Pinkett and Tommy Davidson. Buddy was also featured in the film Beverlyhood where he performed two roles, Reverend I Promice and the outrageous Aunt Gert. Buddy also appeared in rapper Mac 10s debut film Thicker Than Water and as music mogul Brown Suga Bear in the independently released film Retiring Tatiana. In 2000, he co-starred with the recording group IMX, formerly known as Immature, in USA Networks House Party 4: Down to the Last Minute and appeared in The Brothers. Buddy will appear as Cadwell in the soon to be released feature film Out on Parole.
His television work includes guest and feature appearances in a variety of television programs including The Parkers; Sabrina the Teenage Witch; Sister, Sister; In -the House; The Jamie Foxx Show; and Martin. Buddy most recently co-starred on an episode of hit show Yes Dear. His ability to keep people in stitches has also given him the opportunity to perform audience warm-up for a number of television shows produced in Los Angeles including Nickelodeons All That, Cedric the Entertainer Show, Mad TV Show, The Parkers, and The Steve Harvey Show.
In addition to this work as a performer and writer, Buddy is a tireless activist. As the tri-guild (AFTRA, SAG, Writers Guild) Comedy Caucus Chairperson and member of both local and national AFTRA boards, he works to ensure fair working conditions and wages for his fellow performers. Buddy has accomplished many of his goals but is still striving to reach higher levels as a professional entertainer. His quest for stardom continues and the future is very bright.
