About Me

Background Artist:
Marah Johnson This layout was handmade with love by the folks at My space or yours? Go get one!
I started playing piano at the age of five with a private teacher Aimée Thonon. Three years later I won my first competition, the beginning of many others. Most important are the Bach piano Competition, Cantabile, price E. Durlet, jeunes solistes RTBF, Prijs West - Vlaanderen. In 1996 I went to the Royal Conservatory of Ghent and received my master degree in 2001. I've studied with Claude Coppens (piano) and Marcel Leqeux (chamber music). There I developed my love for twentieth century piano music. My favorites composers are Alban Berg, John Cage, Mauricio Kagel, George Crumb, Olivier Messiaen, Gyorgy Ligeti, Witold Lutoslawski, Schönberg, Philip Glass, Villa Lobos. Since the age of eight I play lots of concerts, playing as a soloist, with chamber music groups, orchestras and choirs in Belgium, Italie, Russia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Germany, France. Many of these performances have been broadcasted both on radio and TV programmes. My father and Jeugd en Muziek Vlaanderen started their own music competition "jonge solisten aan zee" at his theater. For many years I'm a member of the jury.
