Spindle is a rock and roll band. We are above nothing and probably into just about everything. We derive a great deal of joy from being around all things music- whether it be playing out live, recording, producing or just checking out a new band. We are four great friends who really love to play music. We have a long history filled with many ups and downs and will always look toward the future and continue to make the most expressive music that we can.
Our new record and all of the new merchandise will be avaliable on the website and at all of our live performances!
Biography and History
"I think people had a tendency to expect a certain sound from us," says Spindle's guitarist Don Henry, "that meant we needed to get really creative."
Indeed, it's not business as usual on the New Jersey-based quartet's ambitious, eclectic debut full-length album Long Road Home. A self-produced album containing 14 tracks that cover vastly different aural landscapes. Where Spindle's previous self titled independent releases were characterized as "energetic" , Long Road Home finds the collective (Chris, Don, James, and Nick- all 25) opening up, relaxing the rules, and reveling in the joys of their newfound musical freedom.
You see, Spindle has a history and it is all about perspective. The band began many years ago as a group of friends with new guitars and an innocent, fresh outlook on life. For years, the band rehearsed in their parents' basements and built a following from the ground up by playing every show imaginable. The band was growing organically. The hard work for the band seemingly paid off when in 2001, the band was seen performing at the Seaside Heights, NJ boardwalk by an A&R rep. With the new connection, Spindle burst out onto the scene and garnered national attention. With nothing more than a demo they had made over two years ago, the band entered the world-renowned Hit Factory recording studio in New York City to begin work on their major label debut...and then, something changed. An original member left the band and the producer clashed with the quartet. The decision was made to revisit the band another time, with again, a fresh perspective.
During the hiatus, singer and songwriter extraordinaire, Chris Woods, honed his craft. He completed a 40 song deal with Warner Brothers and was eager to begin creating for Spindle again. The other members also continued their music pursuits, patiently waiting for the re-launch of Spindle.
"We took the limitations off of ourselves," says frontman Chris. "We built our own studio with an open mind, thinking let's take the time to do whatever it takes to get these songs to the next level. Because we really have a lot of music inside of us and a lot of different places we can go."
To that end, Long Road Home (the title refers to the journey the band has taken back to doing what they love the most, making music) is just as much a journey through different perspectives as it is a rock album.
Perhaps because it was the first album the band have made in which they entered the studio knowing exactly how they wanted it to sound, Long Road Home is Spindle's most diverse collection yet. Brimming with ideas, it represents a huge leap forward both in songwriting and musical prowess.
"So where do we go from here?", Chris asks on the album's second track. First, the band plans to permeate the new music landscape and again grow itself organically with their energetic live performance. "That's our thing," Don says. "We're a rock band. We like to get up there and put on a good show." All the while, the band will continue on the Long Road Home, toward the freedom and constant fresh perspective that music brings.
