About Me

I've been drumming for 23 years in all different styles of music, starting with school marching band and orchestra at age 12, and continuing with rock, jazz, funk, blues, world beat, accompanist work for modern dance--you name the style and I've probably played it. Bands I've played with include Taos Hum (fusion-jam band), 7th Direction (Americana rock), Hobo Jungle (folk/Americana rock), and my current band, Index:A (hard rock). I teach drum lessons in Marin County and Oakland, CA. I'm also a graphic artist. I've been painting, drawing, and doing calligraphy since I was old enough to hold crayons, but the need for band art (tape/CD covers, posters, etc.) allowed me to put my graphic skills to work professionally. In 1996 I began learning Photoshop, Illustrator, and QuarkXpress on a Macintosh. In 1998 I started working in 3-D virtual reality art. I have worked as a production artist and designer in the sign industry, and I now combine all of my music and art interests in my business, White Giraffe Productions.
I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6 !

My Interests

Music, art, physics

I'd like to meet:

People who are creative, artistic, or otherwise out of their minds.

Music:

I enjoy most styles of music but lean toward the strange and complex: King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Tool, Porcupine Tree, Yes, Rush, Niacin, avant-garde jazz like Sun Ra and John Coltrane, and I just discovered the band Hella.

Movies:

I'm not a big movie goer, because I spend most of my time creating music and graphics. But favorite films include Kafka, Brazil, 12 Monkeys, Time Bandits, Baron Munchausen (do you see a theme?).

Television:

Not much use for TV.

Books:

Favorite books/literature include, "All You Need To Know About the Music Business" by Donald Passman, "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene, "The Myth of Sisyphus" by Albert Camus, "An Introduction to Zen Buddhism" by D. T. Suzuki, and just about anything by Joseph Campbell.

Heroes:

Elvin Jones, Roy Haynes, Neil Peart

My Blog

Index:A performing at 12 Galaxies. San Francisco August 16

This is a battle of the bands and an all ages show, so those of you under 21 (or 18) who have been wanting to see Index:A have no excuse for not being there. If you've enjoyed hearing us on KVHS, 107...
