Leneir Perry -aka- Rasta Dawta (lead & backing vocals) Leneir was dubbed Rasta Dawta by other reggae band members because of her spiritual attributes. She is the mother of Dekembe & Deangelo, along with six other children. Rasta Dawta has performed with a number of local bands. But now with the formation of Youth and Roots, she can graciously express her truly artistic vocal abilities.
Dekembe Perry -aka- Kembe (keyboards & vocals) At age 13 Dekembe a homeschooled child prodigy, also plays bass, lead guitar and drums. Dekembe has been playing by ear since the age of 3 and has never had a formal lesson. His favorite music is reggae and his first musical performance was at the age of 4. Dekembe has performed with such artist as the legendary Mikey Dread, Batch, Ras Attitude, MessenJah Selah, Niyorah, Abja, Army, and the Reggae Cowboys. Inspirational in the formation of Youth and Roots, and being a child blessed with musical capabilities beyond his years, Dekembe would like to invite listeners of all ages to an enchanting performance of melodic musical entertainment.
Deangelo Perry -aka- Bassie (bass guitar) Bassie, age 22, loves reggae music, and works closely with Dekembe, his younger brother. His major musical influences are Flabba Holt of the Roots Radics band, Robbie Shakespear of Sly and Robbie, Ronnie Mcqueen of Steel Pulse, Christine Woodbridge of Alpha and Omega, Lloyd Parks of We The People band, Amlak Tafari, and Aston "FamilyMan" Barrett. The key to a good reggae band is the bass and drums. So with his eager fingers and artistic personality, Deangelo would like to say, "Give thanks for the sound of the drum and bass, It would make you move your waist"...
