The Apostlez quickly attracted a local fan base by helping organize a hip hop concert in the wake of a police shooting involving two black males on a popular St. Louis restaurant. Performing at local venues, Def Poetry Jam, the Philadelphia Music Conference in 2000, opening up for Nelly & The St. Lunatics in 2001, winning STLHIPHOP.COM rap group of the year award in 2003 & numerous interviews, their music and work ethic is not just their hobby, it’s their mission.Convicted by his own guilt, Rukahs hooked up with indie filmmaker Falaq to film a video for his song “Katrina” in the wake of the hurricane. The video which depicts the horrors of Katrina won in the Best Music Video category and was nominated for the Melvin Van Peoples Award at the 2006 San Francisco Black Film Festival. With the Katrina issue never being out of date, the video is still making its rounds in film festivals all over the world. The video was also accepted to the Museum of the African Diaspora under “I’ve Known Rivers” The MoAD Story Project in San Francisco.Hailed by one local Hip Hop writer as “the greens in your soul food” and many achievements and awards, The Apostlez are a sure shot to become a big story in Hip Hop from the U.S. all the way to Africa.Check out some exclusive coverage of N.E.W.S.- Voices for Darfur Parts I and II featuring the Apostlez:
