The Devine Comedy

celebratin' the words and music of Neil Hannon

About Me

When the UK indie-pop star, Neil Hannon ) ( aka The Divine Comedy ) played Austin, Texas during his Regeneration tour, the horn-rimmed, bowling-shirted hipsters in the audience scratched their heads and snickered at the mysterious western-wear clad strangers in the front row, who "Yee-Hah"d between songs. Where in the world did these Comedy cowboys come from and how did they know every lyric to every number? The visitors were from Devine, Texas. The reason for their pilgrimage was simple: Their favorite songwriter, Neil Hannon was delivering the word.
After witnessing the performance, Jessi, Skeeter, Dallas, and Billy Bob knew what they had to do: Spread Hannon's message across every corner of The Lone Star State. Within a week of the show, they recorded a collection of Hannon-penned classics entitled A Short Album About Horses, which is presented here in it's entirety.
The Texas town, Devine was established in 1881 when the rails of the International-Great Northern Railroad were extended from San Antonio to Laredo. It was named for Judge Thomas Jefferson Devineqv of San Antonio, an eminent Texas jurist and attorney for the railroad.
Devine has a municipal airport, a public library, a golf course, a public swimming pool, two banks, a farmer's co-op, two weekly newspapers, two feedlots, and now the world's first C&W Divine Comedy tribute band: The Devine Comedy.
