Marcus Simmons (Super Producer, henceforth referred to as "S.P.") is relatively new to the music scene, being introduced only in 2002. By chance, friend (Now Executive Producer) James White came across a program called "Fruityloops" Ver.3. After experimenting a bit, SP found it to be as an addictive and exciting hobby. Very soon, he would be blowing off friends to stay home to make tracks.
It would not be until a few years later, that the overseer of his church (Apostle Clifford E. Turner), will tell him that he has a latent talent for music production. This alone caused him to step his game to a whole new level. Slowly training and teaching himself the art of note structure and rhythm quantization, and at the same time figuring out the mechanics of various sound programs, SP learned the difference between a musical loop, and a full fledged instrumental. Thus, shifting his musical direction from Beeps and snaps and Pops... to "Crime Mob" style tracks, however, understanding the harmonics of SINGLE note quantization wasn't enough for his ever growing eagerness for musical growth.
Throughout 2003 to mid 2005, SP explored a wide range of musical experiments that included samples, different instruments, and had explored various bpm ranges...but could NOT shake the "Crime Mob" feel. As this was a dying type of music, SP applied special attention to various genres of music...ESPECIALLY 80's rock.
After his graduation from High school in 2005, and venture into college that same year, he was introduced into the world of independent underground hip-hop, gaining the trust and friendship of various artist, producers, and aspiring recording companies. Still stuck on the era of the deceased "Crime Mob" style, SP was struggling to cope with the seemingly advanced techniques of his fellow producers. In rap battles and freestyle tournaments, his music was often skipped and ridiculed. These comments fueled SP's desire to produce greater and more interesting music, however nothing could shake him of his self obtained style.
His hard work and heavy track circulation attracted the eye of veteran Producer/Artist, Tori Booker (TopGun). She took him under her wing and taught him bass line arrangement, effective kick usage, chorus lines, verse lines, snare drum alternations, multi-note quantizing, and strings. This brought forth the first true track of variated style that served as the second turning point in SP's musical style.
The track was called "100 Blood" (A combination of 2 samples, a solid bass line, strings, and snare drum alternation sounds), produced by S.P., with DJ Street in the executive seat.
This track caught the attention of up and coming artist "Tonekray", and made it's way onto his first album.
The popularity of 100 Blood opened SP's mind to a whole new method of listening/producing. Later rap battles throughout his college experience had become fan-favorites, including:
Crunk Orchestra.
Soldier, kid..
Gargoyles (Usage of a sample from the classic cartoon series of the same name)
...and lead to the creation of tracks like:
Rocky Theme Sample.
Truth.
Call of duty (Featured on Tonekray's new album).
