With Chicago artists not being shown the right recognition in the rap game, a movement coming out of University Park (known as Uptown by the locals), IL is being formed, and none other then ToneKray is following close behind. Thanks to underground smash singles such as "My Swaggah" and "Ima Give It To You," Kray's unique style and swagger has made believers out of all who doubted him, including major artists in the game.
Often known as the quiet laid back member of the label 2Hood Ent, ToneKray has taken place in a movement of all young artists trying to make it out of Chicago. But like all who participate in this game, he didnt start out as a rapper. Kray's original plan included a long career in graphic design, which he still pursues to this day
v "When people listen to me, i dont want them thinking Im jus another dude making music thats killing hip hop," says ToneKray against those who put down his music. "I make music that people can have fun too, and also relate to. Yeah I have songs like "My Swaggah" that has to do with partying. But I also have songs like "Come Clean" that deals with real situations. When my album drops, its going to have something for everyone, rock lovers, hip hop lovers, rap lovers, everyone."
ToneKray has already had local success with his mixtape "Beast Mode Vol 1," along with his appearance on the nation wide release of Coast 2 Coast: Midwest Edition, which also featured appearances by big chicago artists, P-Plus, Shye, Chi Blizz, and others. ToneKray is indeed a force to be reckoned with, and with his debute album "Call of Duty" being continously pushed back, he's just patiently waiting for his time.
