About Me

I find myself unexpectedly doing fine. I am the Art History queen at a small Southern liberal arts college, where I am often greeted by "You're not from around here, are you." Not a question. Definitely not a question. I don't think about my life much, because then I fall asleep.*M*A*S*H* made me think Donald Sutherland is hot. Now that I'm here, I have a serious old guy crush on him.Sifting through the detritus of my life makes me happy and makes me feel more real than watching TV.

My Interests

art, movies, music, watching TV, drinking beer, wine and just about anything else that's yummy, and watching my kid turn into a person.

I'd like to meet:

all my old friends and the people I love.

Music:

I still love Patti Smith, but now I listen to opera too. Caetano Veloso, Pablo Milanes and Mercedes Sosa make me happy. lately I've been listening to Dagmar Krause, Henry Cow, Art Bears and Slapp Happy. Really, I'm pretty indiscriminate unless it sucks. Then it just sucks. Yeah and Howling Wolf "Who's been talkin'" Great fucking song. I can listen over and over. And Ali Farka Touré.The latest music I've been liking a lot is British Ska from the 80s. Perky stuff.

Movies:

Cold Comfort Farm. My passion is surf documentaries. I can always watch Riding Giants or the Endless Summer. I also like the Thin Man movies or just about anything with William Powell. And *M*A*S*H*...

Television:

Anything that fills in the spaces while I read and grade papers. I like clips shows for that. And things on TLC like What Not to Wear. More like how to dress like a secretary. And just old movies. Mostly TV is a time filler/killer, but I won't pretend I hate it just to be cool.

Books:

Whatever is open in front of me. Or art books with pictures. Or Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy--brilliant stuff. "The Kite Runner" is pretty damned good. Mostly I read "The Nation"... it comes out too often, but packs a wallop to last for years.

Heroes:

Patti Smith. Roberto Clemente. Lisa Antoun who just died of breast cancer. My friend Kyra. My daughter.I am like the:

Fell on his sword

So, a jury finally convicted Scooter Libby on 5 of 6 counts of lying. I guess I'm gratified. But he seems like a low-level fall guy for those bastards above him. If only they could get Cheney on so...
