air, water, fire, earth, wind, and heart!
I'd like to meet:
Your Mom (The classical cliche) and Richard Simmons: a white man in a monochromatic sweat suit, an Afro, and the enthuisasm to stop time.
Music:
I adore this so-called musac. I fact, I really do like all kinds of fancy noises, except for pop music: the kind that is processed and regurgitated from a couple of sythesizers and poor whiney teenie boppers who sort of scream and whistle at the same time. One of my favorite bands is my brothers old band: Blue Fish Blender! I also love Radiohead, Jimi Henderix, SquarePusher, Deftones, Pineapple Thief, Bjork, Portishead, Deepfried, Mos Def, The Gorillaz, James Brown, Sting and the Police, Primus, Weezer, Mew, KoRn, Nirvania, Failure, the White Stripes, the Raucets, and lots of World Music, like Ravi Shankar.
Movies:
Martial Arts Movies kick butt! My favorite movie is Hero with Jet Li playing Nameless. The movie was deep and touched numerous spiritual concepts and rituals that are completely ignored in modern day society. Also, Clifford is the funniest movie of all time- Martin Short is a genius, any 40 year old man who can play an obsessive ten-year-old child deserves a very firm and flamboyant highfive.
Books:
Betty Friedman is a brilliant anaylst who reveals the important link between the subordination of women and housewifedoom. The depth of gender differences and sexual double standards are reviewed in her novel The Feminine Mystique. My favorite poet is Margaret Atwood, who also writes fiction as well. But my true love is spoken word poetry. Saul Williams, J. Ivy, and others have transformed poetry into an interactive performance which transcends all boundaries.
Heroes:
Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed (who were all cool hippies!) and of course Cookie Monster... who I believe whole heartedly inspired the band Disturbed and the Reggea star Elephant Man.P.S. this is a new edition, but Mary Read is mos def one of my heroes. She was one of the few recognized female pirates.
