About Me
MY name is Garrett John,I am a young creative,energetic,lyrical,performer/songwriter.I am one of ST.VINCENT & THE GRENADINES finest upcoming artists.My musical capabilities spread across the caribbean and worldmusic genres ,due mostly to my social and educational backgrounds.I was exposed to music at a very tender age in church and started singing in the chior by age six.After that my interest in music and it's creation began to spiral in a build up at a slow but steady pace allowing me the opportunity to grow and develop my passion ,skills and love for the art form.Performing became a daily routine by the time I had hit high school ,every lunch period was spent beating on desks and reinacting de latest dancehall and reggae releases.By that time I had already travelled to the united states and experienced hip hop one on one while attending school there,ironic enough, because, although I was in love with dancehall my first recorded and written songs were of the hip hop/rap genre,courtesy of my then music teacher Mr.Junior Sutherland the owner and proprieter of JR Studio.After that I went on to enter the schools talent search which was the most prestigious islandwide youth oriented competition at the time ,which by the way was organised privately by Christo Primus, brain child of C.P.R promotions,the event in itself was sponsered by Vita Malt and that time was held at the Victoria park the premiere venue for International artist.unfotunately there was no winner announced the first year I entered,but wen it returned I took the dub/rap category title.By then a new talent show was brought on stream by Zowi Stapleton the creator of HYSYANZ records ,the name of it was Shine,it was made to pick up where C.P.R had left off.I entered the first two years & placed second consecutively behind my brethren & fellow HARD KNOCK FAMILY member Eggy B,while D Fresh another group member teamed up with J Lyric of SHATTA WAVE and placed 3rd under the name J.D.X.during these times the group also entered a few competions winning top honours for our school(ST.VINCENT GRAMMAR SCHOOL) like the QUEST talent show& THE YOUNG LEADERS etc...From then on shows of that nature basically disappeared forcing young artist like my self to seek new genres in order to have a fighting chace in this stifled performing industry monopolised by those in power,this is when I took the bold step of crossing genres to soca which is the most successfull in S.V.G but also the most difficult one to survive in.So far since crossing I have placed 3rd in the Road March copetition 2004,winning the HAIROUN BEER Big tune of the year title,Best new artist and Rag master awards.In 2005 I placed 4th in The International Soca Monarch competition,which I also placed 3rd for in 2006,up to present time I am a foundation member of the big bad ALLIANCE BAND along with other vocal arsonists such Rus T,Skinny fabulous,Daneil Viera "the songstress" etc...I also am a member of the CRASH LANDING,STADIC,NONFICTION & SOUND DOMAIN studios operated by Obed Williams,Kevin Charles,Alex Barnwell & Kamal Archibald,in closing I'll like to thank GOD first & foremost for everything which I have achieved thus far and will continue to ,with his blessing,along with the help and support of everyone around me...ONE PERFECT LOVE...BLESS UP...ICON.
