Fans Fund Debut Album for Edinburgh Band Amplifico
Edinburgh band Amplifico and NEXUSlive join forces to fund the bands debut album in a creative first.
The cash strapped, unsigned four piece have already recorded half their debut album, but now with a dire financial hole to be plugged the band intend to complete their LP solely by donations generated via a unique webathon fundraiser.
The band offer anyone the chance to see their face on an album cover without the years of lugging equipment from gig to gig and sleeping in a VW campervan that has seen better days.
In exchange for a donation to the Amplifico album appeal fans will receive a mention in the thanks and see their face appear in a photo-collage included in the artwork to accompany the CD. The top 20 donators will also receive a copy of the album they helped to fund, along with a DVD of the webathon night and loads of extras.
The dedicated webathon site launched today will kick off the campaign and is focused on a comical short film produced to introduce new listeners to the band and the fundraising cause. In addition the campaign will build momentum by featuring a series of podcasts and videocasts from the band including previously unreleased tracks and daily info on the bands activities in their quest to reach the target.
This all leads up to a one-off live event on the 19th July at the Bongo Club in Edinburgh. An innovative first sees the classic athon format taken to the internet as a 3 hour live webTV show packed with loads of music, crazy activities, special guest appearances, live audience feedback online, and a big thank you to the fans (old and new) who helped it all happen.
Amplifico will perform a live headline set featuring tracks from the new album that can be watched live, for free by their fans around the world.
Amplifico singer, Donna Maciocia is excited by the idea of fans funding their music and looking forward to the upcoming webcast performance she said: "Our fanbase has already been very generous in helping fund the album so far, so we are really excited to try and take this idea further afield to new listeners. If the short-film and webathon site succeed, there could be hundreds of people watching us from around the world on July 19th! Thats great exposure, so fingers crossed.
Nexuslive director Alastair Adair, who first conceived the webathon idea is heavily involved with the promotion of independent artists at grass roots level, co-heading the team that created the Nexuslive webTV show to provide a platform for the promotion of new music by upcoming bands and musicians. On the impending Amplifico broadcast Ali added: "Reading Amplificos blog I realised they were great guys, with really good music, but really struggling to get their album made. The webathon idea seemed an obvious way we could work together to help them out in an interesting and exciting way which is what NEXUSlive was setup to do." The band has already amassed a loyal fan base on the back of their self-recorded EPs, 'Hometakes' Volume 1 & 2, which have received airplay in both the UK and US. Chart-toppers Nizlopi and singer / songwriter KT Tunstall count themselves as fans of the band, strongly backing their decision to pursue success independently and constantly appreciative of the music they create.
KT Tunstall showed her full support for the bands webathon fundraiser, stating: "The Amplifico Webathon is upon us, and if you're not involved, you're missing out... Amplifico are a brilliant band and can't afford to finish their album... So, put yer pants over yer tights, strike a hero stance, and donate a bit of money... The gig on July 19th at the Bongo Club, Edinburgh is free on the net; you're only paying to feel good about yourself. BARGAIN!!!
The webathon album appeal officially launches today, fans can make donations via the dedicated site (www.amplificowebathon.com) or at the live event in Edinburgh in July.
