About Me

This is Regular John!

Do you remember when albums were intended to be a snapshot of a band in a moment in time, rather than a plastic overblown commodity? Have you ever sat with headphones on, listening to the 3-dimensional space of a great recording? This is why Regular John Recording was created - to bring recordings back to their fundamental prupose and sound.

The majority of recording studios today have been endoctrinated by the digital revolution. And while digital recording in and of itself is not inherently bad, it leads to dangerous and unethical practices. Recording a drummer, and then replacing all of the drums with sampled drum sounds is one such example. It negates the art of mic placement, the use of room sound, the tuning and selection of drums, and the skill of engineering itself. It's akin to digitally airbrushed supermodels on magazine covers - it's not reality or truth. In other words, your hearing a lie.

At Regular John, the aim is to create recordings that are true to the sound of the band, and highlight the reality, truth, and honesty that a good band exudes; and also to showcase the warmth and intimacy that a professional analog recording can offer.

Regular John is owned and operated by Dustin Creider, who also runs live sound at the world famous Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC. Dustin has half a decade of live sound experience, and has been recording bands and musicians for over ten years in various locations. Over the years he has mixed thousands of bands, and he brings that experience to the table with every band he records.
