Let It All Bleed Out

About Me

Well, I don't actually know how to "blurb"...I quit drinking a long time ago...I probably blurbed alot back then... :)

Well, way back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, I played lead guitar for a Led Zeppelin tribute band back in the '80's in and around the Toronto area. We played all the songs from the thunderous drumming of Mody Dick to me ripping out on my Les Paul playing Dazed & Confused to the bluesy bass solo of The Lemon Song and the hypnotic lyrics of Kashmir. But, like the Beatles, all good things come to an end.

Soon after the band folded, and several other bands didn't pan out, I was able to the long curls that I needed to pull off a decent Page impression. I'd had a mustache on and off since I was 12 but now I went full out on the mustache and beard - biker boy was emerging. I ended up in a few other bands but nothing ever really sparked like the Zep band ('Kashmir') did and eventually the guitars ended up in one of my closets to gather dust.

Anyways, after it became clear that the band thing wasn't going to me my road I got a real job somewhere with the government. I started working with autistic kids and later ended up with developmentally delayed teens running a full day treatment program. I went to college and graduated as a CYW with Honors Grad from George Brown College in Toronto. Being an artist of sorts I had also started my own business drawing and selling limited edition Pointilism lithographs. Main art themes centred around vintage Harleys and various wildlife (eagle, loon, wolf, wild horse, etc.).

Somewhere around this time my life took an odd twist and I quit drinking. Turned out to be the one of the best things I ever did.

Then came the Harley and the long rides, club meets, trips into the States during the middle of the night and the wide open highway. My main visits were Ohio (hint: Dr. Bob) and parts of Michigan, mostly just outside of Detroit along with a number of places in Southern Ontario. I met alot of people and had alot of fun but like the band, that too would come to an end and fade into my past like a chopper riding into the sunset.

Nothing much happened after that but I did end up getting into my Acadian and Scottish genealogy and even started playing the Scottish highland bagpipes. I learned them quickly and was fairly good at playing them, considering they really are the mother of all instruments, but I had to give them up after I blew the nerves in my shoulders from some old injuries that were brought back by the effort needed to play the pipes. So along with seven guitars (4 electric, 3 acoustic) and one mandolin I also have 2 sets of bagpipes.

And that's that. Eventually, most of us end up getting married and having kids and a spouse...and that's just what I did and I love it all the way, staight up, or down or hell, even sideways when I can get it :)

I still work for that same government doing pretty much the same job (Child & Youth Worker, 22 years this past June) but just part time on the weekends. I run my web design business full time through the week and I'm also Mr. Mom. Wow, who would'a thunk?

And what do I do now? Do I knit? Do I listen to Tom Jones? Do I watch ants build hills on my driveway? Do I stare at my MySpace profile all day? Is there any excitement left? Well hell yeah - I'm just not tellin' because my kids are on here too {:-)

So saddle up, yo. Lock 'n Load. Time to roll 'cause that was the longest flipping blurb I've ever come across. ♠
