Myspace BackgroundsI am a whimsical and energetic person that thrives on intense situations. I love dancing, reading, and spending time with my friends and family. I am blessed because I have a number of truly amazing people in my life! Seriously, there are days when I feel like I am surrounded by inspiration. Last year I returned to directing after a four year hiatus - I was pursuing a career as a competitive ballroom dancer. It is good to be back...feels like coming home. I have worked on five projects this year. Presently, I am helping playwright Carole Lockwood develop her new play The Klucking of Hens. The play is about womens involvement in the KKK in the early 1960s and is a scathing indictment of the organization from a very new and disturbing perspective. My next project is to finish the screenplay that I have been playing with for the last four years - working title is Dirty Laundry. I plan to knock that out before the end of the year. I have also been asked to write a historical play about a lawyer who is wrongfully hanged in Richmond, VA. I cannot wait to get started on that project. I'll be directing a short film next year: Steven Baker's "The Code." It is a fantastic piece and it has been on my desk for seven years. I've recently moved back to my hometown. I'm developing the Acting curriculum for a performing arts school. That's my day job. When I'm not teaching Acting or working on one of my projects, I study film making at UNO. *Does Snoopy dance of love* Yay! I'm back in grad school ...and then there is always the Carnival. My work is my passion and I am so fortunate that I can do work that I love...even moreso because I have all those amazing people I mentioned earlier with whom to share my journey.

My Interests

My passion is Theatre - live theatre. I am fascinated by the performing arts. I love dancing, opera, movies...hell, even karaoke. I enjoy working out and usually manage to get into the gym between six and eight times per week. Shopping is a favorite pass time and I try to control my indulgences - sometimes with less than stellar success. I learned to knit two years ago and it has become something of an obsession. I quit smoking in November and I think I would have killed someone if I hadn't busied myself with constant knitting. New Orleans is my hometown and I love good food. I also love cooking...there's a sort of dreamy contentment in it for me. I've recently starting learning fire-spinning and I really love it (thanks, Pix) and I'm finally learning a bit of self-defense...about damn time.

I'd like to meet:

Any number of people...Elaenor of Acquitaine, William Shakespeare...So, what if Billy Shakes wrote the Hokey Pokey? It might go something like this...

O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wilde release from Heaven's yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the Poke---banish now thy doubt,
Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about.

But, back to the people I want to meet...Ok. Peter Brook and David Mamet. Their writings totally changed the way I approach theatre.

Theatre Logic
...but not really

In is down, down is front;
Out is up, up is back;
Off is out, on is in;
and of course
Right is left and left is right.
A drop shouldn't
and
A Block and fall does neither.
A prop doesn't
and
A Cove has no water.
Tripping is OK,
A running crew rarely gets anywhere,
A purchase line will buy you nothing;
A trap will not catch anything
and
A gridiron has nothing to do with football.
A strike is work (in fact, a lot of work)
and
A green room, thank God, usually isn't;
Now that you're fully versed in theatrical logic...
"Break a Leg"
...but not really.

Music:

My tastes are so eclectic. I like everything from country to classical, rock to rap, blues to Broadway. Recent happy purchases include Camile (Le Fil), Eminem (Curtain Call), and the new Police compilation. Right now I have The Essential Billy Joel in my cd player and I'm about to buy the soundtrack to Tick Tick Boom. Other notable favs are Carrie Newcomer, Eliot Smith, Berlin, Queensryche, Metric, Wynton Marsalis, and Rachmaninov (Vespers is my very favorite piece of music).

Movies:

These are my standard favs: The Princess Bride, Ridicule, Clueless, Tombstone, Monty Python's Holy Grail, Dogma, The Green Mile, Magnolia, O Brother, Where Art Thou, Austin Powers, and Dangerous Liasons. I recently watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and LOVED it. (Yay! Val Kilmer finally did a movie that featured him well...it's about flippin' time). Also, The Libertine with Johnny Depp and John Malkovich (who knew Johnny Depp could be not sexy)? I just finished watching Peter Brooks' Marat/Sade (awesome) and I thought about Quills (also awesome). I haven't stopped thinking about V is for Vendetta since I first saw it. The costuming and cinematography are superb and I'm a sucker for really good mask work. The story is engaging and the action sequences are a wild ride. I watched Alpha Dog on Tuesday and thought it was really engaging. It starts off slowly, but it picks up and really drives. I watch more films now that I'm studying Film Making...who'd have guessed? We're looking at older films right now and I'm developing a new appreciation for some of the early innovators in the field. D.W. Griffith was a brilliant Director, despite his overwhelming narrow-mindedness, and Orson Welles was a freakin' genius. Alas, while I am not one of these great filmmakers, I thought I'd include my first real effort in the medium. It was a fun project.

Television:

Carnivale, M*A*S*H*, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Lost, Black Adder, Kids in the Hall. Recently, I've started watching Scrubs and it's pretty entertaining. Once I carve some time for myself, I'll probably tackle Sex in the City, Deadwood, and House.

Books:

Where to begin? I'm always reading. Ok, here's the short list: The Belgariad, Name of the Rose, Kushiel's Dagger, Lion of Senet, The Prince of Tides, If Tomorrow Comes, Letters Home, The Eyre Affair, The Empty Space, True and False, and Order of the Stick. I met Barry Eisler recently and decided I'd check out his books. He was really nice (and really cute) so, I figured "why not". Wow, his antihero John Rain is amazing and the writing is fun...think James Bond, but grittier. I think the story would make a great screenplay. I read James Ellroy's The Black Dahlia a few months ago and was totally floored. The book is absolutely intriguing; one of the best-written books in the genre, I think. Then I read The Black Dahlia Files. I haven't read much true crime, but damn...now there's a story that would make an incredible film (although I wouldn't want to have to edit that monster).

Heroes:

People who have the courage to pursue their dreams.
