My primary interest is in working to promote issues affecting Indigenous People (i.e. racism, oppression. I also enjoy creative writing and hope to one day do it semi-professionally. Computer technology fascinates me and I'm fairly savy for an amateur who is self-taught. The American Just-us (justice) system drives me mad and I would love to see it reformed but... am not holding my breath that it will happen in my lifetime.
I love the mountains and enjoy exploring new places. I love the ocean too but the mountains are "home". I like digging in the dirt to plant things and watching them grow. I appreciate tradition and studying Indigenous cultures. The uniqueness of old barns and the individuality of trees fascinate me.
I'd like to meet:
I enjoy learning so I'm always interested in talking to people who can teach me something useful or otherwise. I have lots of interests but the following may give you a hint of who I am:
* Conservation and preservation of our environment
* Ending racism/oppression of Indigenous People
* Social injustice
* US politics
* POW/MIA's - we need to bring them home
* The Arts (music, writing, etc.)
* Italian Greyhounds
* Computer technology
* Lasting and REAL friendships

To Make You Think:
Genocide...is still alive and well. If you do not believe it, watch the two short videos below. See for yourself what the mining industry and government are willing to do. It has already happened to the Dine' People. It can happen to you too. A special thank you to my friend Chief Ben Carnes for sending the videos.

"Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books" - John Lubbock
It's a bit stiff but worth the couple of minutes it takes to listen. It's a message from Oren Lyons, Faithkeeper of the Onandaga Nation, about our survival.
Oren Lyons: Value Change for Survival
Earthlings... Narrated by Joaquin Phoenix, is a story about human dependence on animals. If you want to watch a video that will change your life, click below and watch this one. Get a cup of coffee and settle in. It's a little over an hour long but worth it.
"Twenty years fron now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. " - Mark Twain
"Our earth is but a small star in a great universe. Yet of it we can make, if we choose, a planet unvexed by war, untroubled by hunger or fear, undivided by senseless distinctions of race, color or theory." - Stephen Vincent Benet
The True Founding Fathers
"There is enough for all. The earth is a generous mother; she will provide in plentiful abundance food for all her children if they will but cultivate her soil in justice and in peace." - Bourke Coekran
Honoring Women:
"A nation is not conquered until the hearts of its women are on the ground. Then it is done, no matter how brave its warriors nor how strong their weapons."

Music:
I love all types of music and enjoy listening to most all genres except rap and classical. I would probably enjoy those too if I could understand them. :-) Arlo Guthrie is my hero. He refused to conform! And Jimmy Lafave... can't forget him. He's one of my favorites. If you don't know him, check him out. He has a new CD that just came out too.
You just have to love Arlo !
Arlo Guthrie - Folk City, New York, 1985
Here is a taste of Jimmy Lafave. Hope you'll enjoy it like I do.
JIMMY LAFAVE only one angel film by raymond
Movies:
Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
A Beautiful Mind
The Last of The Dog Men
Braveheart
Thunderheart
Last of the Mohicans
Smoke Signals
The Patriot
Windtalkers
Black Hawk Down
Television:
TV isn't much of an issue for me. I'm basically a news hound but occasionally turn the channel to Discovery, The History Channel, or Animal Planet. The reality TV shows amuse me so I watch once in a while. Outside of news, Gray's Anatomy has my loyalty. I think it's the most creative piece of work on any network.
Books:
In The Spirit of Crazy Horse
It's All Over But The Shoutin'
Hanta Yo
Viet Cong at Wounded Knee: The Trail of a Blackfeet Activist
Clan of the Cave Bear (anything by Jean Auel)
Heroes:
My Dad because he taught me about integrity. My Mom because she's sooooooo strong. My Brother because he's damn near perfect. My sister-in-law because she sees art in just about everything and when she doesn't see it, she creates it. And, my one and only niece who teaches me so much about kindness and perserverance.
Friends and Issues I Support:
I believe in supporting friends and issues you believe in so.... I'm going to use this space to promote some of my favorites. Afterall, it is "MY SPACE", isn't it?

Phil Vassar is a local guy from my hometown who dared to be different and is one of the best musical storytellers of our time. He has a new single out and hopefully the radio stations will give him plenty of air time. You can check out Phil's myspace page to hear the new single. You'll find him in my friend's list. Let's take this new single to the top of the charts. Click here to visit Phil Vassar's web page. With the help of my new friend, Rick Davis, I have recently reconnected with an old friend, Nelson Whitehead, one of the great musicians from my area 30 years ago. Nelson is now living in Vegas and is playing with Rick in a couple of great country/southern rock band that call themselves,
Desert Outlaws and
Long Train
Click here to check out Desert Outlaw's myspace page and listen to their sound clips. These guys are great!
You can also check out
Rick's myspace page and listen to some of his solo work on his mp3 player. He's another great talent. Hey Rick, thanks for the help.
I just recently made a connection with a young talent that I think has a really bright future and I am impressed with his passion for social justice. Although he wears many hats in the music business, his most recent adventure deserves some attention.
Matt Voth found himself working for FEMA after Hurricane Katrina. Not only did he help those that were displaced in getting the help they needed, but he found his own voice for social justice. Recently released, his CD, The Katrina Sessions , shines a light on the failure of our government to take care of people in a crisis. The Katrina Sessions are available on CD Baby. Check it out and order several. Part of the proceeds are being donated to the victims of Katrina.

Political Injustice:
The story of Leonard Peltier could be yours, or mine:
If you don't know the story, and still believe in justice, go to The Leonard Peltier Defense Offense Committee (LPDOC) and read about the injustice. If it can happen to "one", it can happen to "anyone".
And last but not least, my favorite animal, the wolf. We can learn so much from studying their behavior. If you're looking for an issue to support, you might look into wolf reintegration programs. Another great charity is the many sanctuaries that give a forever home to the many wolf hybrids that find themselves unwanted by their owners.
Expressions of Conscience:
"He that can live alone resembles the brute beast in nothing, the sage in much, and God in everything." - Baltasar Gracian
"We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." - Joseph Campbell
"The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him."- Ralph Waldo Emerson
"A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead
