What kind of fuckery is this?

About Me

Just a few cats shy of crazy cat lady-ism. I carry photos of my orchids the way normal people carry photos of their human offspring. I make my living being nosy and telling others what I find out...got anything good for me?

My Interests

Good things to read, eat, grow, write about and pet. Yoga. Sunshine. Greenery. Shoes.

I'd like to meet:

Hooligans.

Music:

Blur has been my consistent favorite since 1994. Outkast. I've been considering it, and I think Dr. Dre is probably the best living rapper. When "alive" is removed as a criterion, the answer is clear, unless you think that Tupac is alive and chilling with Elvis somewhere. Will Oldham. Portishead. Le Tigre. Pulp. Marilyn Manson. Christina Aguilera. Django Reinhart.

Movies:

I hate more movies than I like, which is a pain in the ass. No action, unless it's Terminator 2 or Indiana Jones. No violence, unless it's the Godfather flicks or Scarface or Fight Club. No dumb comedies, unless the wizard's stopped by. Foreign? I'll always give it a try.

Television:

Nah. I've made room in my heart for two shows, thanks to iTunes. Still don't have an actual television. I don't care that Desperate Housewives is bubble gum crap, I'm addicted.

Books:

I love 'em all. The only book I ever started without finishing is Bill Clinton's "My Life" which is about 1,000 pages of what he had to eat at each stop on the gubernatorial campaign trail. Recent faves have included The Omnivore's Dilemma and Adverbs by Daniel Handler, which is how Lemony Snicket signs off on books he writes for grown-ups. I love Milan Kundera, Salman Rusdie, Shel Silverstein, and Irvine Welsh.

Heroes:

Everyone on this show is hot, but Peter Petrelli and Papa Bennett (swoon) are the hottest.

Nightmare in the Chair

At the ripe old age of 28 and after literally a decade without seeing a dentist, last week I had my first encounter with a dental drill. That's right, Little Miss Brush n' Floss has surrendered her pe...

Bienvenido a Miami

Remind me again why I live here? I'm just back from four sun-soaked days and three debauched nights in sultry Miami. I stayed in South Beach, right next to the Versace mansion. It's a pretty touristy ...

Things I didn't think I could do, and armpits

This Saturday, I sort of accidentally blew my own mind. I somehow managed to drag my sorry carcass out of bed around 8 a.m. (a feat in and of itself) with the intention of going to a yoga class at 9. ...

Peter Leo

In his column today, Peter Leo announced his retirement from the Post-Gazette.  I knew it was coming--the last time I saw him, he mentioned it would be sometime soon.  He's not moving to Mar...

Una semana en la playa

I'm nursing my sunburn from a week in Tulum, Mexico, one of the most beautiful places on the planet. I went on a yoga retreat with Amazing Yoga, the Shadyside studio where I generally get my pretzel o...

Takin' it back to the old school

If you want to see a picture of me at about age 9, you can, but you have to look deep into my sister's MySpace.  If you don't know which person is my sister, I probably don't want you looking, an...

I blame the NFL

Yes, it is football's fault that I have a near-fatal cold right now.  Steelers/Browns on a Thursday night?  Good thinkin', Sportos!!  The whole city was a damn parking lot with Browns f...

When things get out of hand

I just realized I've given several minutes of serious, measured thought to something quite...well....ehhh...  Okay, I'm wondering if I'm going to cause any serious rifts in my interpersonal relat...

The Furries

As many of you may know, I spent the weekend reporting on Anthrocon, the world's largest convention of furries, which took place right here in the Steel City. I'm knee-deep in deadline on the story f...
