In February 2002, my older sister, Gayle, was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). She underwent several rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and stem cell infusions. I was her stem cell donor. After eight months of fighting this disease, on October 23, 2002, she lost her battle.
In 2005, I formed a team, "Walk for Wendy". Wendy is a friend of mine that went through treatment for a second time to beat Hodgkin's. She is doing great and she was able to join us at the walk in November 2006.
I have become quite active with raising money for finding a cure for this disease. I have participated in the Light the Night walk for the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for the past 4 years. This year I will not only be participating in the Light the Night Walk but have decided to challenge myself with a marathon on June 3, 2007.
